Third Production Update
Hey Backers-
It’s now been almost three weeks since the campaign has closed, and we’re pretty excited with how things are progressing!
We are documenting process as much as possible on our Facebook page. If you want, like our page to stay in the loop on a daily basis.
This was a huge week for us. We promised delivery dates and we are going to hit them. Cutting started this week which is the culmination of gathering a massive amount of material from all over the world into SF. It’s also a huge step forwarding in getting you your GUSTIN’s.
Here are the key highlights:
The Standard, American, Regular, Organic + everything else were delivered to San Francisco. This is a huge amount of denim.
We did a final two hour review of our markers (markers are the templates used to cut out the jeans) and sample garment to get ready for production. We reviewed every thread, stitch, seam and bartack to make sure it is exactly how we want it.
Cutting started yesterday with pocketing material and continued today with denim. The cutting process is pretty cool. It starts by rolling out the material, layer-up-layer across the cutting table. After that, the marker is laid down. Then the cutter begins. This guy is an artist. He makes the process of working a huge blade through layers of material look like the most fluid motion you could imagine. He works his way around each marker piece until everything is sitting in stacks ready to be bundled. This is the foundation of the GUSTIN fit. Great cutting ensures we end up with the design we created.

When we’re not looking after your denim, we’re busy planning the next huge phase for GUSTIN. It’s really shaping up and we can’t wait to tell and show you more. Stay tuned for official dates and maybe even a few sneak previews of what to expect.

THE NATURAL INDIGO. Sanforized Japanese selvage denim, natural indigo plant dye, 13 oz weight. This unique denim comes from one of the most highly regarded mills in Japan and is no longer being run in production. Natural indigo plant dye is rarely used today and is quite pricey. The shade of this fabric is a lighter blue. We’ve used this denim before and it’s pretty sweet. Hand-numbered and signed. Same cut, same sizes, same uncompromising quality.
