We received a good question from you today. What is this limited availability fabric?
When you’ve been doing denim for six years (like we have) and love the fabric (like we do), you build up an archive. Styles you’ve sampled, styles you’ve used in production, just plain cool fabrics you wanted a few yards of to check out with your own eyes. That’s what we’ve been working with over the past few days.
We really want to keep offering these limited editions, so we got to thinking . . . ROAD TRIP!!!
Yep, you heard us. Here’s what we’re doing (early next week):
- Renting a car
- Trucking down to Los Angeles
- Checking out a few warehouses full of awesome, limited quantity selvage denim from all over the world
- Immediately putting our favorites on Kickstarter for you to support
This will be epic! In truth, it’s mostly for us, because who wouldn’t want to go check out hundreds of selvage denims in one day?
We’ll be posting updates, photos, maybe even some video during the trip. Most importantly, we’re going to score some awesome selvage for you. We’ll take pics, share them and post some of it immediately as a reward on KS. We’ll do our best to hold some back for other days and time zones (we hear you, Asia!).

THE NATURAL INDIGO. Sanforized Japanese selvage denim, natural indigo plant dye, 13 oz weight. This unique denim comes from one of the most highly regarded mills in Japan and is no longer being run in production. Natural indigo plant dye is rarely used today and is quite pricey. The shade of this fabric is a lighter blue. We’ve used this denim before and it’s pretty sweet. Hand-numbered and signed. Same cut, same sizes, same uncompromising quality. Thanks for the fabric suggestions. Keep em coming. We're very interesting in trying some super heavy fabric too. It definitely has some sewing challenges and is tough to find, but we'll keep a look out.

Options are great. But for those that want the $200 level where we can meet in person and pick up our pants can we choose what type of indigo denim that we would like?

Having options is always a good thing! You guys should have a model that is light weight maybe around 11 oz. for summer and spring wear, and a heavier model that is around at least 20 oz. for fall and winter wear. But before providing all those options, please have more choices on fits! I think the community is interested in a slim/tapered leg model. Thanks!

If you all put out a few more pairs of The Heavy I'd be more than happy. But I also agree with Jay on the super heavy indigo/indigo or indigo/black.

Agreed with Jay. Super heavy would be a cool limited novelty. Indigo/Black is a nice permanent addition and how I prefer my jeans (though I was very curious about the dusty-metallic look.) LHT, extra-slubby, whatever.
Also - slimmer cut option! Haha.
