About this project
Your Heart is the pop/rock band fronted by Andrew from Songs To Wear Pants To, and they are planning a music video for the song 'Never' .
'Never' has been a fan favorite since it first came out as a minute-long acoustic ballad, and last summer Andrew was commissioned to extend it as a radio-length song for full band. This extended version will be the lead single from Your Heart's upcoming album Autumn, which the video will help launch. Autumn is the second in a series of four albums which Your Heart will be releasing this year - one for each season. Andrew and Karl worked together previously on the video for In The Sun from the Summer album.
And this is how we see the story…
The song is a lament. Starting delicately the track sets the stage for an intimate moment with Andrew that progressively builds into a climax of broken-heartedness.
He stands alone in a room of cardboard boxes, starting to slowly un-pack them, revealing personal belongings that reflect a failed relationship. Picture frames are filled with photos of him and a girl through various seasons of life. The couch and the blankets on them, the lamps, the dresser, coffee table, television and other decorations all reflect this past relationship.
The song progresses and Andrew sets up the room with these belongings but nothing seems to fit. He gets it wrong with each attempt, putting everything in one corner or everything stacked in the middle of the room until he finally gets it right…and then proceeds to break everything.
The details of the story will be told through the photos he puts on the walls as he breaks each photo frame, one by one. At the beginning we’ll see the girl happy with him, but as her expression and body language change in the picture frames we are lead to a total breakdown of their relationship with Andrew left alone amongst the ruins of their world.
We wish to capture all the moments of breaking in very very very slow motion. The kind of slow motion that allows you to study the impact and fracture points a baseball bat would have on a flower pot before it explodes into a million pieces all over the room. That slow. Water-droplet-frozen-in-time slow. This means we need specific camera and lighting equipment that is very costly to make this all that it can be. Your contribution will help us realize this video without compromise and be able to capture destruction at its most beautiful.

Karl Richter
Send MessageBorn in small-town Canada, Karl Richter was heavily influenced by his older brother’s interests to pursue the arts at a young age. Through secondary school into highschool he studied comics for inspiration in illustrating and story-telling, always looking to movies for inspiration. By the end of highschool he pursued design and moved to Toronto to learn about graphic arts at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Within 6 months of living in Toronto, his love of film and the possibility that making movies was real, he realized motion picture was the means to fulfill his desire to tell stories using all facets of art— from composition and colour to emotion of performance and movement.
After a few false starts, ‘The Boy and His Wolf’ was the first short film that Karl felt he had made something worth talking about. This was the beginning of his journey as a Director, which lead to the creation of ‘wendel’, a collective based moniker to take the emphasis off of Karl as the sole creative force behind any project he would write, direct, edit or produce due to the collaborative nature of motion picture.
'The Boy and His Wolf' was a Platinum REMI award winner at the 2009 International Film Festival while his second short film 'The Door' was an official selection at the 2009 SoCal Independent Film Festival.
The end of 2009 released wendel's second music video and first for Your Heart, titled 'In the Sun'.
