A classical music CD of pop song arrangements. She and Him, George Michael, Queen, Foster The People, and many others... for orchestra.
For years I've been arranging pop songs for orchestra. It started when back in 2006 I had an original orchestra score I composed that I tried to get performed after graduation. Unfortunately, I realized it wasn't realistic. So I released a CD of that score using my computer - unfortunately, that too failed.
So instead of my own pieces, I have since arranged cover songs for orchestra, and over the years I've really enjoyed these pieces and the challenges because I find the original songs to be beautiful, daring, and demanding to be re-arranged for a large ensemble.
This project is for a physical CD to consist of 15-18 pieces of more cover songs arranged for orchestra. I'll be tackling various genres, artists, and styles. To actually hear what my cover song mp3 arrangements sound like please go to http://fororchestra.com/music
Orchestras are declaring bankruptcy - but I feel that it's because with no new music or new ideas, then there is nothing new for audiences to draw from. It's not that people are losing interest in the orchestra - they're simply losing interest in it's predictable and unremarkable nature. This gets me upset as a composer, and I've found this to be the only way to bring my scores to life, in a way that we can hear them and enjoy them.
So far the list of artists' repertoire I've chosen are: Foster The People, Queen, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Ani DiFranco, Jonathan Coulton, She and Him, Boy George, Valentine's Day, Winter Songs, and many, many more.
The instrumentation is as follows; flutes, oboes, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, percussion (drum set, timpani, triangle, vibraphone), violins, viola, cello, bass.
Each week I will arrange a new piece - many will be topical (for example: if it's the middle of February, then I'll arrange a love song as a Valentine's Day tribute, etc.) and there are a few surprises.
There is a lot of care that goes into these orchestral recordings, so I want to create something you can hold in your hand, read, share, and enjoy with friends and by yourselves.
I'd love to share my passion for the orchestra with you.
So if you believe in this idea, let's join together in this mission to bring back the orchestra with new repertoire, new ideas, new music, and new audiences.
