Winning by falling down

Around Christmas we asked you to vote for WakaWaka as 'Startup of the Year' in the Netherlands. We came in second but it was what you would call a 'photo finish'... WakaWaka received over 1900 votes, so thank you to the hundreds of backers who took the trouble to click on the 'red button' before having dinner with the family. Within only a few hours we managed to 'overtake' the nr. 1 coming from 4th position on Dec. 24th. We stayed well ahead in 1st position and thanks to you guys WakaWaka was in the lead with more than 300 votes. Up until a couple hours before the deadline on the 27th that is... you see, our competitor 'Scoupy' is an online platform where people can subscribe to discount coupons. They have a rather large database of customers. In the last moment they sent out an offer to potential voters, they could win a sky dive if they would only care to vote for Scoupy. That was enough to pursuade several hundred people to vote within a few hours. We decided not to spam you guys even more than we already did, according to our statistics nearly 25% of you voted which is truly truly amazing! In the end it was a matter of either 'Diving Down' or 'Lighting Up' we chose the latter... We left 10 other startups way behind us without the need of any special offers whatsoever. Thank you so very very much to reach this honorable second place as ´Startup of the Year 2012´ ! very cool.

Waterproof pouches

Yesssss! We got the pouches in today! and we gave them a proper bath right away. We got more samples than we bargained for, so we had the chance to test a few extra. Check out the pics at the bottom for reference. This is what we found:

  • All 4 models we proposed to you are in fact water proof
  • An extra model (not proposed) showed leakage: reject
  • popular model No#2 has a really terrible closing mechanism (looks kinda cool, but is fragile and inconvenient) I would not recommend it.
  • best impression: No#4 , strongest welding, easy closing.

You still have time to vote through our 'Update No.#4'. Once the votes are all in, we'll do the math and let you know which one you picked. We'll make sure the size is large enough to not only fit your WakaWaka Power, but also an average mobile phone. We thought that would be convenient. We need to pick 1 color though: black.

Stretch Goal coming Up: `Made in Haiti´

It is really really magnificent to see that we're so close to reaching our very ambitious stretch goal of $250,000 ! You will get your pouch, but you will help us create jobs in Haiti. Today I heard the Prime Minister of Haiti is already aware of our plans and we may expect support from the local government. We are very grateful to mr. J.R. Gaillot (former congressional candidate from Florida with Haitian roots) who is supporting us to make this possible. He is spreading the news!

      It seems your recommendation of pouch no. 4 is the one to go with! All of the different colours look so great - though I am leaning towards the black/grey, followed by the blue.

      There is something wrong with the numbers on the pictures. Number 1 on the first pic is number 4 on the last pic, right?!

      I think most backers voted for number 4 in the other post, now they also do...but which one is number 4?
      I don't like the "round bottom" of number 1 (number 4 in the last pic). But if it is the strongest and easiest it's ok for me. Not in pink. :)

      i prefer more vibrant color. For instance, when I hear "red", I usually visualize a fire-truck-red or ferrari-red. The red WWP in the picture above seems too dark for my taste. Same as the green one. If you can alter the shade a bit, I think red & green would be perfect. IMHO, the original yellow has the perfect vibrancy.
