Someone was asking (either here or in the other WW project) -- will the WWlight charge on a cloudy day. I've got mine on a windowsill, it's certainly a cloudy-overcast-dreary day and the little green "charging" light is blinking, though not as enthusiastically as when there's nice (or even modest) sunlight.

1. Do they have AA or AAA batteries inside? The WakaWaka has three AA batteries inside.
2. Are they regular NiMH or Low Self Discharge cells? They have a 3 year lifetime based on daily usage and are high temperature resistant.
3. How long can WakaWaka be left in dark before losing charge? The self discharge rate of WakaWaka is around 4 months.
4. What is the standby OFF current? I'll have to check this.

I love the WakaWaka! I have used it every day since I've gotten it. Makes a good reading light form my dark living room and I leave it on low at night as a nightlight. I've put it out in the sun for one full day, it hasn't run out of power yet!

an additional comment on the USB charger:
I have seen the first (confidential) 3D drawings... oh my goodness... you are in for a treat! really... I think around November/December I will be able to send you drawings as a sneak preview and I expect us to be in production around Feb/March 2013. We have promised slightly later, since I don't want to over promise again.
Why has this happened?
Initially our conclusion was that USB chargers in general are inefficient. Boosting 3.7 V up to 5V to get it through the USB and than back down to 3.7V. It costs 40% efficiency. The external battery charger solved this issue. However... our super bright engineers have come up with a direct USB solution which is super efficient. So we had to choose to simply forsake the external charger option all together.
It also meant that we had to start from scratch with the new version. While we were at it, we refreshed the design as well... you´re not going to believe what you see... sorry for teasing, but it really looks cool.
So to all of you who have pledged for the charger ($50 award) I recommend you hold your breath a little while longer. If you´re out of breath, no worries, let us know and we´ll refund you the $15 we charged for the external charger ;-)
