The ball and joint design is the safest. A ridged aluminum or plastic design will break or cause injury. Over 150 in use world wide.
You have choices, another 3rd person pole is on Kickstarter, and there will be more in the future. Here are key things to consider - Will a plastic connection survive an impact with a hard surface? Is it a good idea to have a connection right over your spinal column? Bottom line "NO", safety and equipement protection are the difference with the VuPackPole.
VuPackPole - You've found your advantage to a superior viewing experience! This new and innovative way to capture POV camera footage is AMAZING! Watch the video and see the difference.
What's the need? - Over the last year I've enjoyed my GoPro, but the mounting systems available need improvement. The problem is head movement, which causes shaky and hard to watch video. When editing video it became difficult and time consuming. I was spending far too much time cutting sense and using software to stabilize shakiness. Over time I had become frustrated. I no longer used the camera I paid a lot of money for.
The Solution - I realized a third person perspective would capture more of the action and keep the video smooth. Also, I could move naturally without concern of head movement effecting quality. I searched in stores and on-line, but there wasn't anything available. I made a commitment to create the first commercial manufactured backpack pole mount, it had to be easy to use, lightweight, durable and safe. It's arrived with the VuPackPole manufactured by VuVantage.com .

Functional Prototype - After 12 months and numerous prototypes, I'm ready to manufacture this design. It's easy to use, produces quality video and is safe. It's lightweight, durable and works with GoPro, Contour and nearly any other action camera on the market. Currently I've sold over 100 of these, with not a single one returned. It's no longer in the prototype phase, and needs funding to go into the mass production phase. Patent Pending: 61/635820

Manufacturing/Production Plan. - This product is designed and assembled in the state of Alaska, USA. The frame is made using a CNC process from HPDE plastic here in Alaska. The subsystem ball and joint are made by RAM mounts in Washington, USA. Some components are manufactured overseas and shipped to Alaska for assembly. About 10% of the overall raw material cost. I build each and every one.

Why not build your own? - Some of you may be thinking "I could make one of these". The retail parts in the VuBackPole will run you about $200 + $60 in shipping, not including your time and effort. All you need do to verify is search the web for prices on carbon fiber tubing, HPDE Plastic, and aluminum RAM Mount parts. Let me bring the cost down for you by manufacturing in bulk.

Let's make this project a successful, and do this together. We'll be producing films with greater quality that our friends and family can all enjoy for years to come.
Thanks in advance for helping to make this project a reality.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The number one challenge is getting the cost down for you. I've been ordering raw material in small quantities. Doing this doesn't get me the best OEM price possible plus incurs increased shipping costs by using FedEx or UPS rather then bulk freight. I've built over 100 of these units and shipped them all over the world. Not a single one has come back. The demand has steadily grown, and will continue to. A huge challenge is to expand at a rate that matches demand. To do this I need Kickstater funds to; buy in bulk, rent space, hire employees, attend trade shows and advertise.

At -20 plastic is useless and dangerous when it breaks. Someone will build a cheap plastic version in the near future. I will continue to use only the best materials available to ensure the safest, and strongest solution.
