Balkan Tales goes to Bulgaria to play with Bulgarian kaval virtuoso Theodosii Spassov! US tour, Fall 2011
to play with Bulgarian kaval virtuoso Theodosii Spassov!
US tour, Fall 2011
In late August Balkan Tales members and Chris Rael will travel to Bulgaria to embark on an exciting collaboration with world-renowned Bulgarian kaval virtuoso Theodosii Spassov. This is an unprecedented cultural exchange where Indian sitar, Bulgarian folk songs, and musicians from New York and Sofia will meet for the first time to create new music. We will perform at one of Bulgaria's most prestigious festivals - Apollonia Festival of Arts in Sozopol, an ancient village on the Black Sea dating back 25 centuries, as well as in Sofia and Varna.
Following this journey, we will tour the program in the US this fall, with Theodosii Spassov joining us. We are excited to be part of World Music Institute's season with our New York concert at Symphony Space, and are arranging great dates around the country, including Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles, among others. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! We have received great support for the project already, but remain short of funds for our international travel to Bulgaria. Our fundraising goal here is $2,000, but we really need to raise $5,000 to cover the remaining international airfare costs and some of the accommodation and local transportation expenses in Bulgaria. So regardless of the goal, please help as much as you can! If we raise more than $5,000, we could come back home with a live record: Theodosii Spassov and Balkan Tales, live from Apollonia!
We have a lot of great prizes as to thank you for your support. Visit Bulgaria with us through our video/photo travelogue while we're en route. Have us over for an intimate house concert with delicious Bulgarian food and hear our travel tales from the old country. We also have a tax deductible and matching grant part of our campaign - ask us about it!
Thank you for sharing in this amazing cross-cultural trans-Atlantic expedition!Vlada, Chris, Mathias, Kyle and Mike
