We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Vivre Musicale's first professional recording project featuring young professional-level artists.

This fund raiser will enable us to record our first professional recording that features the work of Irish composer, David Coonan for whom Vivre Musicale has received the Arts Council Commission Grant. The recording will continue Vivre Musicale's mission by providing young artists real life experience collaborating on a professional recording that will enhance their careers while also creating a work of lasting art of which they can be proud. It will serve to develop the young artist's professionalism and performance excellence and, through a hands on, grassroots endeavor, develop strategies for personal and professional marketing, development, and product branding that is indispensable in today's economic and artistic landscapes.

In addition to David Coonan's work, this recording will also include Olivier Messiaen's, Quatuor pour la fin du Temps, in collaboration with the  Sima Trio.

We are very proud of the work we've done so far and look to you to help us further our mission to reach more artists and communities. By supporting this project you are supporting not only the Arts as a whole, but the individuals who have spent many years worth of hours practicing and perfecting their art, educating themselves, in the hopes that their unique voice, their unique perspective, on the music they love will have a chance to be heard and appreciated. You will be instrumental in launching careers, furthering dreams, and expanding Vivre Musicale's offerings to its young artists. We encourage you to get to know us at Vivre Musicale by visiting our website, following us on Twitter, liking our Facebook page, subscribing to our newsletter and our YouTube page.

None of this would be possible without your support and your commitment to "let the music live..."

Thank You

FAQ

  • Songs of War & Peace will be written for soprano, tenor, clarinet, and piano and be the creation of two song cycles that can stand independently, one for soprano, clarinet, and piano; the other for tenor, clarinet, and piano, as well as be one larger song cycle with the two vocal parts interacting together.

  • Quatuor pour la fin du Temps, or more commonly known, The Quartet for the End of Time, is scored for violin, cello, clarinet, and piano. There is a great legend wrapped around the work's creation as it was realized during WWII while Messiaen and the other musicians for whom the work was originally written were imprisoned in a POW camp.

  • From a purely compositional perspective, the two works utilize the same ensemble size with violin and cello from Messiaen's work being substituted for soprano and tenor respectively in Coonan's. The interplay between the two voices in both works is integral to the color palette of the two pieces and, in Messiaen's work, are used in a conversational style at some points, as a unison voice at others, and as lone orators at again other points in the work. This treatment will be seen quite literally within the vocal lines of Coonan's piece. From a more programmatic perspective, both works treat in their own way the concept of war and peace, with Messiaen's being written during a time of great physical war and Coonan's during a time of both the literal war but more specifically, ideological war. Because of these relationships and the sheer epic quality of Messiaen's Quartet and the promise of Coonan's piece, we have chosen to couple them together as a way to pair two distinct but symbiotic compositional wholes into one reflective musical relationship.

  • Currently the approximate premiere date of the work is July 2013 for which we are planning an East Coast tour to premiere the work with stops in Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City.
