About this project
I am very excited to share my latest project with you on Kickstarter! In collaboration with Metropolis Ensemble, Kristin Lee (violin), and Conor Hanick (piano), we are releasing the first ever all-Fung CD on Naxos, as part of the newly launched Naxos Canadian Classics – Classiques Canadiens series, which showcases music by Canadian composers. Our album will be among the first to launch this series, and I am proud to be associated with Naxos Canada. The entire album will be released in 2012 in both the United States and Canada.
We need your help. Although we have raised the most of the funds necessary for the album, we need to raise just a tiny bit more to reach our goal. On the album will be my Violin Concerto, Piano Concerto, and Glimpses for prepared piano. This Kickstarter campaign will be used specifically to record and produce Glimpses -- the concerti were already recorded at Tanglewood in September and their production is nearly completed. Please help by making a donation to make this final recording possible.
The CD is going to be a wonderful showcase of my recent works and the talents of rising stars in the classical music world today. Thank you for your support.

Vivian Fung has distinguished herself as a composer with a unique and powerful compositional voice. Since earning her doctorate from The Juilliard School in 2002, she has forged her own approach often merging western forms with non-Western influences such as Balinese and Javanese gamelan and folk songs from minority regions of China. The New York Times has described her work as "evocative," and The Strad hails her Uighur-influenced music to be "as vital as encountering Steve Reich or the Kronos for the first time." Chicago Tribune recently described Fung‘s Yunnan Folk Songs as conveying "a winning rawness that went beyond exoticism." Vivian has several new commissions for 2011-2012.
