Today I launched the kickstarter for the next game in the Vicious Crucible series. It's here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/viciouscrucible/vicious-crucible-3-argentate-drift
This time, we're headed to Villa Argentate, the Silver City, and backers get to vote on the character of that city: will it be full of schemers and influence peddlers, cut-throats and thieves, or artisans and guildsmen?
Also, the video is (I think) funny. Or at least amusing.
It's hard to predict anything about a kickstarter, but I'll tell you this much: to realize its goal, "VC#3" will need more backers at smaller reward tiers than last time. I love you all to death, but I don't want to rely on Eburnean Tower backers supporting this one just like last time… if only because they've already got the first two games!
While I certainly hope that you'll be interested in backing Villa Argentate, the hope that I'm pinning this kickstarter on is that you'll take your experience with Verdigris Valley and Eburnean Tower and talk about it online. If you played, how did it go? How fantastic is Hisham's art? If you got a print copy, how awesome is that print job, huh? Even if you've only read the PDF, did it get you excited to play or give you new ideas for your games at home? Tell the world about it!
The idea behind the Vicious Crucible series is that quality work can support itself on the reputation that it builds by being quality work. That good work begets more good work. Like most kickstarters, though, it is more experiment than anything else. I'm not sure that it will work, but I'm eager to find out.
I am hoping that with your help and your voice, we will see The Vicious Crucible of Villa Argentate become a reality.

So I sent off the packages to our generous backers who're getting packages; they should be in mailboxes or on doorsteps later this week! Hooray!
Which brings me to the Final Accounting portion of the evening. With the packages mailed, that's the final cost of the project. Later this week I'll do a new export of the Eburnean Tower files that are download- and tablet-friendly (as opposed to the mammoth printer files), but all the money that's being spent has been spent. In total:
Of the $2,152 raised…
$107.60 went to Kickstarter
$107.60 went to Amazon Payments
$300 went to art costs
$90 went to editorial costs
$30.97 went to office supplies for prototyping (ie: ink cartridge)
$692.92 went to producing the print run at DocuCopies.com
$212 went to the laminator and lamination supplies (Deluxe sets)
$20.02 went to wet erase pens (Deluxe sets)
$23.91 went to the folders the games went in
$20.10 went to the envelopes the games got mailed in
$83.83 went to mailing costs
…and I claimed the $355 remainder for design, writing, production, hair-pulling, etc.
Many thanks again for all your generous support. I'm pleased as punch (as punch is well-known for being pleased) with how the game turned out, and I think it'll make a great addition to your game library.
As always, I would love to hear about your Actual Play. Post or message here or at joshroby.com, which is the roundabout way of saying, "keep in touch!"
Folks, the print run was delivered to my doorstep today, and the game looks fantastic!
This was a new printer for me, DocuCopies.com, which offered some fantastic prices. So fantastic I was a little skeptical, in fact. But once I opened the boxes, all fears washed away. The paper stock is good and springy, the colors are rich and deep, the registration is precise, and so on and so on.
Tomorrow I'll be sorting all the pieces into the packages and shooting them out into the world.
Watch the skies!
…and then check your mailbox.
