Update #13: A gift for your patience: a download of the album!
Update #12: It's official! Sand & Lines releases on June 15th!
Update #11: Sorry about the delays!
Update #10: OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Because of you, we can press our third album, an album that means so much to us and the people who helped us record it. It stands as a historical document of the sound of the dearly departed Georgia Theatre. We are now working on artwork and such, and you should be getting updates from us on our progress sooner than later.
Thank you again to everybody who helped out...and spread the word to friends that you can still preorder the album for $20. Any extra money helps us out with publicity, promotion, fancier packaging, etc.
Love,
Lucas (Venice is Sinking)
Update #9: Wanna hear a song from the new album?
I already posted about this, but here is us doing "Bardstown Rd." live at WOXY. A much more choral version of this song will be on the third album! We think it's one of our best ones!
Enjoy and pass it around!
Update #8: New reward! Get our new EP!
If you donate $20 or more, we'll send you a copy of our new EP, "Okay". Yep. That's a pretty hot deal: our new EP and a preorder of the new album, plus digital versions of all of that. Plus, you can listen to the EP right away with our semi-secret streaming version of it. Have you seen the album cover? It's great! Our friend Ian Darken did it using our friend Courtnie Wolfgang's photography. Two covers and two early version of AZAR jams. YAY!
Spread the word around!
Love,
Venice
Update #7: Hello? Is this thing on?
So...not a lot of action on the Kickstarter and we have a lot of ground to make up. We've gotta make 2000 bucks in a little under a month.
Maybe people don't know what they're gonna be getting with this Georgia Theatre record. I promise that if you pony up money for the preorder, we will let you hear it in some form or fashion way before the release date (still TBA, natch).
If you want to hear one of the songs from the album, well here you go. We recorded "Bardstown Road" live at WOXY recently.
You can hear it here: http://bit.ly/2cB7
Of course, that's not the version that will be on the album, but it gives you a good idea! The version on the album features a huge choir of awesome local musicians!
Please spread the word about this project. It means so much to us!
Lucas
Update #6: One month to go!
And we still need around $2000! We really want to put out this album, as it stands as a historical document of what the Georgia Theatre sounded like. Tell your friends and family! Consider the $20 donation level a preorder of the album!
We can do this!
Lucas (Venice is Sinking)
Update #5: Let's pick up the pace!
We are at $745 and that's great, but we honestly need a lot more people to jump on board if we're gonna make this goal. If you donate now, we'll let you hear our new EP. Also, if you donate, we'll put up exclusive pictures of cute animals. Like this one.
Okay, so that picture is dark, but those are three young raccoons on my back deck. True story!
Let's go, people!
Lucas
Update #4: New EP!
Update #3: An update from Wilmot Greene from the Theatre
Thank you so much for all your support. You all have been so amazing, we are feeling your love.
Here's what i know so far,
There is still no word on the cause of the fire or the structural integrity of the building. This is a pretty slow process and federal agents are on the case. They know it was an accident, and it started in the back right corner of the building, that's about it for now.
All the employees are ok and everyone is thankful for the benefit shows. We have raised a month or so of payroll already. Thank you all for buying the tshirts and coming to see pgroove, the whigs, and dead confederate. More shows are being planned, stay tuned for more information about those.
As for the future of the Georgia theatre we have every intention of rebuilding. At this point we have no idea if that is possible. I believe in my heart that with enough help it can come back. The numbers are really scary. It's going to be a long hard climb, but I think I'm up for it. If you had been to the theatre recently you know that it looked, sounded, even smelled better than ever, so we had a lot of momentum going in there. The timing of this fire couldn't be worse,,, it just plain sucks in every way. We are setting up a system so you can donate money online to help us out. We are also working on setting up a nonprofit company to accept larger donations tax free. It's going to take millions to build her back and we are frantically working on how to make it happen.
People always asked me why I worked all those crazy hours and put all the money back into the place, why my hair was turning grey and I was so pale. I always replied 'because every single night we are open someone has the time of their life in here'. All of the calls, emails, facebook groups, etc. that we have received in the last few days proves that I was right. I am glad that you love the Georgia Theatre as much as I do. So stay hopeful and together we can build her back better than ever!
cheers,
Wilmot

p.s. the bigass fan is still hanging,,, trippy
p.p.s. pass this around please.

Let's raise some more money to rebuild!

Update #2: Alright!
$300 and less than one week in. That's 10%! Thanks to all of the backers so far. Spread the word on this. We are giving the proceeds from this record and fundraising drive to the folks at the Georgia Theatre! They sure could use it right now.
Thanks!

Update #1: Sad news.
It is with great regret that we bring you the news that the Georgia Theatre was nearly destroyed in a fire this morning. We recorded our third album there, and the acoustics of the space are as much a player in the recording as we are. We hope that this record will stand as a document of one of America's most unique music venues.
Sending out good vibes to Wilmot and the rest of the Theatre crew.

Funding Successful
This project successfully raised its funding goal on September 13, 2009.
Pledge $1 or more
Satisfaction of a job well done. And access to all updates on this site!
Pledge $10 or more
All of the above plus a good quality digital (320 MP3 or similar) version of the album two weeks before release date. But, of course, you should probably listen to it on vinyl.
Pledge $20 or more
All of the above plus the album on glorious vinyl, shipping included. It will be shipped to you within two weeks of the release date.
Pledge $50 or more
All of the above plus one of our old albums and a t-shirt. Oh, and we'll sign whatever you want.
Pledge $75 or more
All of the above plus a Velvet Doodle hand-colored by a member of the band.
Pledge $100 or more
All of the above, plus the rest of our catalog, including the rare Chinese version of "Sorry About the Flowers", which has extra songs and a Chinese lyric sheet.
Pledge $200 or more
All of the above (while supplies last on the Chinese CD), plus we open up the vaults to you. You get all of the live material and alternate takes you desire. Think of it like the Beatles Anthology, but BETTER. Also, we'll put your name in the thanks section of the liner notes!
Pledge $500 or more
All of the above, plus you get to name a song on our next album (not this one). Nothing filthy or naughty unless it's a funny, Grandma-don't-get-it kind of naughty. We need some options here, too. If you want to call a song "Mr. Mittens", we're probably not going to allow that. Okay, actually, "Mr. Mittens" isn't so bad. But you get what we are saying. Come up with a number of options and we'll pick the one we like the best.
Pledge $750 or more
You get all of the physical stuff above, plus we will learn a cover song of your choosing and post us performing it on YouTube, just for you. We'll send you an MP3, too, if we can figure out how to do that. You will have rights to this performance and distribute it as you see fit.
Pledge $1,000 or more
You get all of our catalog, the merch, the name in the liner notes, etc. PLUS, we'll come play a show within 8 hours of Athens, GA, just for you and whoever you want. We'll even learn a song or two you might want to hear.
Pledge $1,500 or more
You'll get the physical stuff, the vaults, the name in the liner notes, etc. and we'll play a show for you, AND we'll come to your house (within 3 hours drive of Athens, GA) and do lawn work for you. Jeremy is a landscaper, so he knows what he's doing. Also, Daniel's a landscape architect, so he can offer planting suggestions or something.
Pledge $2,000 or more
All of the physical stuff and the media above, and we will write and record a song about whatever you want (within reason). We'll send it to you, too, and we'll release it as a digital single. No limit on this! Buy more than one!
Pledge $3,000 or more
You get all of the tangible stuff above, plus we will etch your name (or some Grandma-safe phrase) in the vinyl itself. That means your name will be on the plates used to make the records. Your name will live on in perpetuity in people's record collections (and subsequent yard sales).
Pledge $10,000 or more
Okay, pretty much, you'll get everything and we will name our next album after you or something. We have no idea. We will play a show for you. We will make you sandwiches. Someone in the band will probably kiss you on the mouth. Certainly someone will faint. Let's talk!
