What Can CameraMator Do For You?

With CameraMator’s control and preview capabilities, you can:

• Use CameraMator to instantly upload your photos to your iPad/iPhone with no messy wires or cables involved
• Preview and edit your images instantly while you shoot
• Place your camera in a ‘hard-to-reach’ setting in order to take a good shot and still be able to control your images remotely via your iPad/iPhone
• Have a faster, more efficient photo shoot that gets the client buy-in before you wrap the session
• Save time and money by avoiding potentially expensive re-takes

The Story

The CameraMator idea originated during a trip to Florida in late 2011 when I attempted to connect my DSLR to the iPad and transfer images in real-time. Finding no adequate way to do so, I set out to build a device that would allow wireless tethered photography.

After successfully exhibiting at the WPPI LaunchPad event in February, I became convinced that there was a growing need for a cost-effective way to wirelessly integrate the iPad into photography workflow.

I teamed up with Matt Hurley (whom I met at an Orange County iOS developers' meetup) to accelerate the development. Several prototype boards later (and many iterations of the iOS app), we had a fully functional device working with all the top cameras from Canon and Nikon.

Why We Need Your Help?

CameraMator is ready for production and we have a firm quote from our manufacturer in China.  Reaching our goal will allow us to get the ball rolling for the production run. A small portion of the proceeds (< 10%) will be used to expand our testing lab (so we can test with more cameras).

And if we can raise substantially more money than our goal, we will put up some stretch goals for your feedback.

How Does It Work?

CameraMator consists of the CameraMator unit, a sleek wireless component that attaches to the DSLR and the CameraMator iPad/iPhone app that controls the camera and displays the images.

The CameraMator device creates its own network (or join an existing WiFi network).  Just put the iPad on the same network as the CameraMator device, launch the app and start shooting.  No wires involved!
