Stretch Goal #1: The Unstuck Fiction Podcast!
Wow! With your help, we've raised $4000 -- and found more than 100 unique backers -- in just under 4 days. Thank you!
Although we've reached our first funding goal, it's still the case that every dollar that comes into our campaign will address an immediate financial need. The expenses of printing and shipping more than 1000 perfect-bound books and paying more than 30 contributors are significant -- but with each new pledge that comes in, we'll be in better and better shape for Issue #2.
Last year, for instance, we were only able to supply our distributor, Ingram Books, with a fraction of the print copies they requested. (That's because bookstore sales, while important to us for non-monetary reasons, are not a significant source of revenue. We receive a commission only on the issues that are actually sold, and that commission is typically so small that it covers little more than the cost of printing and mailing the book.) We would love to get the print edition of Unstuck into more independent bookstores -- and more readers' hands. By donating and spreading the word, you're helping to make that happen.

Today, we're announcing a new stretch goal of $10,000. If we raise this money, we'll accelerate our plans to produce an audio version of Unstuck.
Our new podcast will follow the spirit of our live reading series at Austin's Hyde Park Theatre. Instead of having authors read their own work, we'll bring in actors and comedians to perform the stories from our journal. (At our recent Austin readings, local talents like Owen Egerton, Tyler Stoddard Smith, Ken Webster, and Zac Carr have performed stories by Amelia Gray, Matthew Derby, Arthur Bradford, and Charles Antin. We've also featured a few authors, like Elizabeth McCracken and Edward Carey, performing their own work.) With your help, we can bring these performances, and these amazing stories, to a global audience.
We'll partner with another local nonprofit (more details soon) to record our readings in an excellent studio space. And since this is Austin, after all, we'll invite musicians and bands to contribute music to the fiction podcast.
If we reach our stretch funding goal, we'll aim to launch the new podcast (which will of course be free to all) by the beginning of 2013.
And one last reminder that Unstuck is, and will continue to be, 100% volunteer-edited. Every dollar that comes to us through this Kickstarter campaign will go to print, distribution, and production expenses, and to the writers and artists who create the work our journal celebrates.
