We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on July 3, 2012.

Photo-main

Competitive, alpha-type driven by sports & financial success morphed into a life of artistic expression & human relation.

NEW funding goal: 100 backers!

*although initial funding has been reached, PLEASE continue to pledge!

"Unrelated" -a live dance performance created by Blake Nellis, was chosen to be part of the Red Eye Theater's 28th season of New Works 4 Weeks. We are in the midst of rehearsing this WORLD PREMIERE dance piece which explores human relationship, however complicated, contradictory and confusing it may be. This Kickstarter project aims to raise funds for our live dance/performance piece exploring who we are as humans--how we connect, disconnect, struggle, play and survive; The creation process has been inspired by how my life as a competitive, alpha-male driven by sports and success morphed into a life of artistic expression, somatic experience and a more open, lighthearted view of the world around me.

This Kickstarter will provide:

1) Compensation for the professional artists/collaborators working on this project [let's pay the dancers for their work!] 2) Marley floor rental for Red Eye (this is a specific vinyl/linoleum material suited for dance) 3) Videographer documentation fees, in hopes of promoting this piece in HD for future expansion 4) Costumes - if we fail to raise the funds we'll be forced to go naked...or worse: WEAR BAD COSTUMES. So please help!

I am constantly amazed at the beauty and diversity in human motion and emotion. The real heart of this work is dependent on the [creative, compassionate, humble] people making it with me.  In many ways we look different from each other - we move differently, we think differently and we value different things.  But we are affected by this dance that we are making together.  The movement comes from within each of us rather than from an outside source like many classical dance forms.  Through our action we are able share a personal perspective.

Because we are an ensemble of professionals from different disciplines we have no outside funding or company budget.  But we do have a diverse & valid voice to offer to the respected Minneapolis dance community.  Through this voice we hope to inspire people from all genres of dance to step outside of their worlds and create something new and powerful together.  And for all the non-professional dancers out there, we hope this piece makes you get out of your chair and move!  Please support this Kickstarter and an art form that is VITAL to all our futures.

Other Goals Include:

To encourage people to attend original dance performance. To allow dance to be a tool for storytelling, conflict resolution and emotional processing.  To share contact improvisation with a wider audience.   To share a live piece of art through humor, virtuosity and physical authenticity.
