Is Negative Publicity Worth It?

We had a bit of a scare today when one of our interns got a little hot-headed in a forum discussion on FanBase.  The intern meant very well in creating the forum, but lost his cool as he started receiving negative responses to what he was saying.  Or intern was seeking to help us gain more exposure through those forums, but in the end created more negative exposure for us than positive.  That has lead us to the discussion of whether that negative publicity is worth it.

As a company we have taken steps to remedy the situation, and hopefully turn this little fiasco into a positive outcome for us, and in fact that has already begun to happen.  SO it has caused us to wonder if it is worth generating a little bit of negative publicity for the sake of gaining exposure.  We are still torn on this topic, but in the end we have made it undoubtedly clear to our interns & staff that we will not tolerate them acting on behalf of UP in such a negative manner.  This company & this project are about something much larger than any one of us, and scenarios like this corrupt the entire community.
