About this project

Twin Cities Runoff has been publishing long-form weekly stories since November 2010. We’ve been building a community, stoking a fan base, and compensating contributors all along. We’ve provided community-oriented programming, including our community open-mics and public editorial meetings. And now we’re expanding to provide daily content... and we need your help.

Beginning January 1, 2012, Twin Cities Runoff will begin publishing column-style blog posts four days a week, bolstered by our usual weekly long-form article. We’re going to be seeking out eight new writers to publish a limited run of eight different columns-- once every two weeks-- on a specific topic. Like our magazine stretches the limits of local online ‘rag publishing, our blog series will expand the boundaries of what a blog can be.

Our Kickstarter will provide the funds necessary to get our blog project off the ground-- compensating writers of blogs and long-form content, like we’ve done all along. And it’ll get you some cool stuff from local artists, writers, and our very talented staff.

And that’s not all...

We’re also launching our first print project: An anthology of our 2010 and 2011 content. Published with our friends at Replacement Press, this anthology will be a who’s who of Twin Cities writers for years to come. Our as-yet-to-be-titled book project will feature your favorite Twin Cities Runoff content from the past year-- plus a few extras.

We have a bunch of stuff in the works, like zines, podcasts, and a shop that supports our local artists and writers. We want to set the 21st century standard for local long-form alt-weekly-style publishing-- but first, we need your support.

Poster by Steady Print Shop. Yours (plus a book and a haiku) for a $40 donation.

Why now?
Twin Cities Runoff has provided a unique perspective on our vibrant local culture, and we want to reach you every day. We want to give writers a place to write expressively and passionately about the things they love, and we want them to get paid for their work. And we think that you should keep reading.

Why should I fund you?

Twin Cities Runoff is moving toward a donation- and sponsorship-based business model-- so we need your help to keep sustaining our local writers and artists. We’ve proved that we can provide readable content on a weekly basis, and we have the pluckiness and enthusiasm to keep going. We want you to better understand your world.

Plus, have you seen the rewards? A book, original artwork, a photo shoot... we’re hitting up all the media we can already!

We think we’re the best local online reading in the Twin Cities area, and we want to keep providing content that you want to read.
