Update #11 · May 17, 2012 · 2 comments

Terence here, on the ground in San Francisco.  OpenBeam will be sharing a booth with Logos Electromechanical LLC.,  at MakerFaire along with a few other projects born at Metrix:Create Space.

Those of you who are going to MakerFaire, please say hi!  I will mostly be at the Logos Electromechanical booth, if I'm not distracted by all the shiny things around me.  (The reason for sharing a booth, aside from the cost savings aspect, is so that everyone at the booth has a chance to go see the faire as well).

I will have some extrusions, some goodies to give out, and ... maybe a little surprise, if things work out the way I hope to work out. :-)

In other news, if you have not been following the blog, here's the latest development since my last update here:

*  The dudes at "Engineer vs Designer" interviewed me on the OpenBeam project.

*  I've released all the CAD files seen in the video under Creative Commons license.

*  The shipping schedule had slipped back out by about 2 weeks to mid June.  Still earlier than promised, but not the world dominating 8 week ahead of schedule that I was hoping for.

*  We've gotten pictures of our first part off the injection mold.

*  And finally, after a long, interesting story that I'll blog about after MakerFaire, the first piece of OpenBeam extrusion was finally born into the world.

I'm still really, REALLY new at blogging, so please bare with me.  Again, feel free to leave me comments and help direct some traffic over to my blog.  Comments are like those little power-up pills in the corner of the Pacman Maze.  They give me the little boosts needed to take this project to the next level. :-).

Thanks,

Was just at Maker Faire, what a zoo! Way too crowded. I wanted to say hi but you were busy talking with someone else. I hope the show went well for you.

This was very interesting. I never knew anything about extrusion, but after this update I read though the Wikipedia update. Am I right to assume this is hot direct extrusion?
