Big City Players - True Life Documentary
This will be a full length documentary shot over an 8 month period on the journey of a jazz musician in the trenches of New York. David Richards, a former professional baseball player of 18 years, follows his dream to be a jazz trumpeter in New York City. After a tumultuous career in sports, filled with great levels of success and touches of bad luck, he follows his original dream of being a musician. We get a close look at the world of the freelance music industry and meet the people who’s life choices keep the music alive.
Along with David’s story, we also get to follow several people’s musical journeys. From Grammy winners and music business legends, to side men, buskers and aspiring musical dreamers.
We learn the importance of relationships and the love and support shared between musicians with an inside look never seen before . And while some struggle to barely support themselves, others have made it to the top. Watch as personal circumstances are thrown aside as the music brings them together on the same stages, venues and sessions. Follow him during his own struggles and triumphs as he deals with his new life aspiration. After enduring personal family failure and being diagnosed with multiple scleroses a couple years earlier, see David overcome his setbacks and work his way into the jazz and music scene on his journey to producing his first record with all of his musical brothers and sisters.

What We are doing:
we need to raise at least $50,000 to make this happen. The production being taken on is huge! Just for the 18 minute preview we shot 20 hours of footage! Can you imagine the resources needed to shoot 8 months! Ideally a project like this would require more but it is a project that NEEDS to happen! We plan to release this film in 2013 and look to get it broadcast in a desired medium. We will keep you posted on those negotiations.
