Update #20: We're at it again...
Hello friends.
We had such a great time making the album last year that we've decided to start a new project! This one is a little different. It's a Christmas album!! Oodles of "ho, ho, hos" and "fa-la-la-las" done up in our own jazz way. We think it's going to be a great time!
We're planning to record in early August and we are asking for the upfront support again to ease the pain of the recording expenses. It's kind of hard to get excited about Christmas in the heat of the summer, but with your help anything is possible. We've set up a whole bunch of support levels - this time based on the idea that we're trying to help you with your Christmas shopping. We'll even gift-wrap and send the CD with a Christmas card directly to your friends or family.
So, think about starting your holiday shopping REALLY REALLY early this year and come check out our new Kickstarter project: http://kck.st/nl1rKk (the video is pretty silly).
Deadline is Aug 3rd! Yikes!
Thanks so much for your help in the past - and for considering helping us again this time around! Merry Christmas.
Hugs and kisses...
The TRI-FI Guys
PS > We're even taking requests!
Update #19: Full Circle
Hello Friends
We've made it! With your help (and only slightly behind schedule) the CD was recorded, mixed, and mastered, the photos were taken, the artwork was designed, the CD was printed and (most importantly) delivered.
You've got the digital files already and the CDs, photo books, sheet music, iPods, and whatever else you've got coming are in the mail and on their way. The CD goes on sale on our website TODAY (November 2nd, 2010), so mark that day in your calendar as an event you made possible! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your help and support!
We hope you'll keep in touch and come see us when we're playing in your neighborhood. Hey - maybe you could even tell a friend or two about us! We also hope you'll continue to support independent artistic projects of all kinds and all sizes (there are a bunch of good ones right on this Kickstarter website). There are a lot of artists you can easily support with just your presence - check out some local music, visit an art opening, see a dance performance - and let them know that what they are doing has value!
Let us know what you think of the music!
Hugs and kisses
Matthew, Keith and Phil

Update #18: Better image...
Update #17: Home stretch!
Update #16: Track One - For Your Ears Only!
Update #15: Mixing mixing mixing
We just heard the mix of the first track for the new CD and it sounds fantastic. Our engineer, George Petit, is doing a truly outstanding job. The recording sounds like you're sitting right in the room with real instruments. He's working on the rest of the CD and we should have that soon! And who knows, we might just share a preview with you... ;-)
Thanks again for your support.

Update #14: Mixing Time
Hello friends.
Liebe Grüsse aus Dresden! I'm here on tour with Curtis Stigers, but wanted to take a moment to let you know we've narrowed down the tracks we like best and we've sent "the keepers" off to George Petit so he can start mixing. There will be some back and forth here to get it sounding just right before it's on to the next step. I just wanted to let you know the progress and keep you all in the loop. We're still very excited about the whole process. Thanks again for your support!

Update #13: More Music - and Photos!
Hello Friends.
Sorry to post twice in one day. I put together the MP3 of rough mix samples from the session (see the previous update) and then thought about making a slideshow from the photos from the session. So, this is the same music sample I posted earlier today, plus a bunch of photos from the recording session. Now it's almost like being there...
Enjoy. Thanks again! We couldn't do this without your support.

Update #12: Give Us a Listen - MP3 Sampler Online!
Hello folks.
The fun part about pledging to support a project is that we're all in this together. We mentioned that we were really excited about how the recording session went, and I don't want you to have to take our word for it. So I threw together a sampler of what we're working with - just a little teaser - so hopefully you'll be as excited as we are. You're getting some secret stuff here! This is the rough board mix of a few of the tracks that will likely end up on the record. It's raw, unmixed and unmastered stuff. I think it sounds pretty darn good and it's only going to sound better from here.
Enjoy the music and we'll be in touch soon with more news.
We love you madly.

Update #11: Checking the session!
Whilst my bandmates traverse the globe with vocalist Curtis Stigers, I've decided to start digging into the audio files from our recording session to see what we've captured.
Musicians generally like to wait a while before listening to anything from a recording session. I'm sure there's probably some good psychological reason for this, but the non-sceintific fact is that stuff sounds better when you wait! For example, the night I arrived home from the recording session, I popped a few tracks on just to see if my copies of the session worked. My first reaction was "okay, I'm sure I'm going to like this more tomorrow". I let a few days go by before I sat down again in front of my fancy stereo and really listened to it. I was much more happy. A few days after that (and yet another listening), I was immediately excited to get this project out the door and in your hands. Funny how your brain works :-)
We will be updating you as we go along, but here's what to expect when you're expecting. The next step is for the three of us to decide what tunes are going to be on the CD. A lot of the tracks were only one or two takes, so this process shouldn't take long. From there, we pester our fabulous recording engineer again and ask him to mix those takes. Next, the final mixes make their way to the mastering engineer to give them their final sheen. Meanwhile, we start coming up with artwork ideas to feed to Matthew, who's responsible for all of our cover art. And finally, the mastered CD and artwork get sent to the CD manufacturing facility, who will promptly lose everything, forcing us to start all over. Just kidding.
Anyway, you get the picture. Playing music is the easy part! Getting it into your gets interesting. Lucky for us, we happen to have great fans who support us! Thanks again!!!
Speak to you soon,
-Phil

Update #10: Shufflin' through PA
As you know by now, Phil likes to play the bass REALLY hard and his bass exploded at our outdoor concert in Lewisburg on Wednesday night. (See pictures below in a recent update)
But that didn't stop us! On Thursday we took his bass to J.R. Judd so that Mr. Judd could put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
Later that evening we played at the Bullfrog Brewery and were able to sample our new favorite beer again..Edgar IPA...oh yes!
By the way, the Thai IPA is pretty slammin' too!
Update #9: Pennsylvania Tour!
Last Wednesday we were in the studio at WVYA in Williamsport, PA for an interview with the charming Fiona Powell. We had a lot of fun and then ventured across the street to the Bullfrog Brewery for lunch. The Edgar IPA is amazing, by the way! Yum!
Update #8: Pictures from Smalls in NYC
We had a great night at Smalls Jazz Club on Tuesday night and here are some pictures to prove it. A big thanks to all of you who made it out and to those of you who watched the live show on the internet. We were all very touched that Jazz drumming legend Billy Hart showed up to support us too!

Matthew Fries, Phil Palombi and Keith Hall were brought together as the backing trio for jazz vocalist, Curtis Stigers, and toured extensively building up a level of musical communication that has become rare in the jazz world. With Tri-Fi they step into the spotlight and build on this musical chemistry with original compositions, new arrangements, and a vibrant swing in the tradition of the classic jazz piano trio. The result has been rave reviews.
"There is a big difference between a 'band' and musicians who just work together occasionally," explains Hall. "Because we spent so much time together, there is a freedom that is expressed in our music. We always have lots of fun."
Tri-Fi's style has been compared to the music of the Bill Evans Trio, the Oscar Peterson Trio, and modern piano trios of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.
Tri-Fi were praised on their self-titled debut album for "the perpetual forward thrust of the music... and their flawless intercommunication" by All About Jazz, and described as infusing "creative writing, fresh arranging and complimentary playing to offer us music that has to be reckoned with" by JazzReview.com.
About their most recent release, Postcards, All Music Guide says, "Tri-Fi is well on their way to incorporating new style and strength to their already potent brand of piano trio music."
Tri-Fi performs at clubs, festivals and colleges in the US and Europe.
