About this project
TRI-FI wants to wish you a Merry Christmas. This may seem like a strange sentiment in the middle of a hot July, but we're planning early for a special holiday season - filled with some brand new holiday music.
On August 8th we are planning to go into the recording studio to record a collection of Christmas classics. To do this we're working with the same excellent recording engineer we used on the last album, George Pettit, so we know we're in good hands and will have a top quality recording. We want to record, mix, master and have this new CD ready for our fans in time to enjoy through the holiday season. But the recording process costs money and we need your help!
We had such a wonderful experience with our last Kickstarter drive that we thought we'd try it again - this time in a very festive holiday way. We're excited about the idea for a few reasons.
1. To date we've only recorded our own original compositions, so we're really curious to see what we can come up with - to put our own spin on some really familiar holiday classics.
2. We found so much inspiration in the overwhelming support during the recording of our last album (TRI-FI 3). It was like going into the recording studio with a bunch of your friends waiting outside to hear how it went!
3. We love the idea of folks giving our music as a stocking stuffer - to their family, their friends, their co-workers, or neighbors. Music is love and we want to create something special for you to share.
We've set the deadline of this Kickstarter drive for before the recording date for a very specific reason. Do you have a favorite holiday tune you'd like to hear TRI-FI record?
Along with your pledge to be a part of the project, feel free to send us a note and request a tune! This is Kickstarter and we want you to be part of this project from beginning to end. We'll keep you up to date as the project progresses with news, photos, videos, pre-release audio samples and more - right up until the CD is delivered in plenty of time for the holiday season. That's the joy of the Kickstarter project-funding concept. It's so much more than just buying a CD at the store. When you pledge your support it becomes your project too - you and TRI-FI work together to make the music happen.

Matthew Fries, Phil Palombi and Keith Hall were brought together as the backing trio for jazz vocalist, Curtis Stigers, and toured extensively building up a level of musical communication that has become rare in the jazz world. With Tri-Fi they step into the spotlight and build on this musical chemistry with original compositions, new arrangements, and a vibrant swing in the tradition of the classic jazz piano trio. The result has been rave reviews.
"There is a big difference between a 'band' and musicians who just work together occasionally," explains Hall. "Because we spent so much time together, there is a freedom that is expressed in our music. We always have lots of fun."
Tri-Fi's style has been compared to the music of the Bill Evans Trio, the Oscar Peterson Trio, and modern piano trios of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.
Tri-Fi were praised on their self-titled debut album for "the perpetual forward thrust of the music... and their flawless intercommunication" by All About Jazz, and described as infusing "creative writing, fresh arranging and complimentary playing to offer us music that has to be reckoned with" by JazzReview.com.
