I am so excited to finally record this music on an album, which I have decided to entitle "Windows of Grace". This album is metaphorically like a large stained glassed window of multiple colors. My goal with this record is to mix the many different colors that I love and combine them in a new way. I have a wide variety of influences that I love to put together in what I think is an organic sound. The concept of grace simply refers to how each style of music I have been exposed to over the years was truly a gift. For the title composition, "Windows of Grace", I wrote a mixture of modern jazz sounds and break beat drumming. I wanted to create the sound of a searching yet up-lifting story with this piece.
The piece entitled "As Things Change" is a meter changing tune that combines an afro-cuban feel and swing. I was inspired by the collective nature of rhythm in other cultures in areas like South America and Africa. I am proud to create my first record with some very talented musicians including drummer Cole McSween, and bassist Carlos Enamorado, and a surprise special guest on tenor saxophone (more news to come). These gifted musicians are a blessing to work with and I look forward to being in the studio with them.
This record will be a reflection of all the influences and inspirations I have had since I began this musical journey. I have a large variety of musical interests that inspire me and going into this record I am drawing from composers not typically known for "jazz" including Johann Sebastian Bach and Olivier Messiaen. At the same time I have an attraction to rhythms of other genres, some of these being Latin, African, and the electronic style of drum n bass. I want each piece to speak to all types of music lovers from those who love jazz to those who just enjoy quality music.
We plan record this album by the end of January 2013!
Also, I will keep everyone updated during the process of the recording through pictures and videos!
