I am very excited about my debut CD as a solo artist. It will be a Jazz album with a lot of other influences blended in.
I grew up listening to Pop, R&B, Gospel, Blues and Jazz. In addition to Aretha Franklin and Ella Fitzgerald, my favorite artists have always been in the singer/songwriter category like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and India Arie. My love of pop music informs the way I sing Jazz and my love of Jazz influences the way I sing everything else. I would call myself a Jazz-Pop fusion.
About Kickstarter:
1. Kickstarter is all or nothing community funding for creative projects. I must raise all the funds or I receive nothing.
2. No money changes hands until I reach my goal. After I reach my goal, the full amount is deposited into my account (minus 3-5%).
3. The money I am asking for will pay for studio time, my engineer, my producer, my musicians, mixing, mastering, cover artwork, and manufacturing.
4. You can give any amount and there is no limit on how much I can raise. If I manage to raise more money than I am asking for, I will use it for extra instruments, like strings and horns. Any overflow after that will go to promoting the CD in as many markets as possible.
About my project:
I have done all the prep work and now I have 10 songs ready to record.
I have been working with Grammy nominated Wayne Wallace for a year on 9 arrangements for the CD. I am also recording an arrangement of Skylark as a duo with internationally acclaimed guitarist, Mimi Fox.
Here are the songs I have prepared.
1. Alone Together - A jazz standard, cool groove, I added a section of my own lyrics as a solo section.
2. California - Joni Mitchell's classic song arranged with a Jazz sensibility and a very fun ending!
3. Shed a Little Light - My favorite James Taylor tune. Big arrangement. I am writing background parts for a gospel choir to join me.
4. Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd's anthem song, moody, spooky and melancholy.
5. Those Clouds Are Heavy, You Dig? A playful Kurt Elling vocalise arranged for lead vocals over a 4-part jazz choir and band.
6. Sometimes I Feel - Allison Wedding original. Haunting lyrics and melody. The arrangement calls for a string quartet if possible.
7. Skylark - Duo with guitarist Mimi Fox who made a special arrangement of the song.
8. One Shot - My original about stepping on stage for the first time. Arranged for a latin band. Think HORN section!
9. Like a River - My original about finding love, arranged as a warm, acoustic Bossa Nova with guitar.
10 Let it be so - My arrangement of Rhiannon's soulful, prayer-like improvisation from her WeBe3 recording. Arranged for string quartet and voice.

First of all, thank you for wanting to be a part of this project! The way Kickstarter works is that it is all or nothing funding and all the backer pledges are collected online. So the answer is yes, while you could send me money in another way (and I will put it aside for the album) it will not help me reach my funding goal. Thank you!

Surrounded by the thriving Bay Area music scene, Trelawny Rose returned home from middle school each day eager to delve into her parent's eclectic record collection. She pulled her favorite albums and sang along side Aretha Franklin, Pink Floyd, Bonnie Raitt, and Ella Fitzgerald. Recognizing her gift for singing, her mother enrolled her in Jazz Camp West which brought her in touch with life-long mentors, esteemed vocalists Terrance Kelly, Faye Carol, Madeline Eastman, Rhiannon, and surrounded her with meaningful ways of self-expression. Trelawny found her voice in the coastal redwoods of Northern California during these formative years.
At age eighteen, Trelawny joined the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir (OIGC). During her tenure with OIGC, highlights included performing with Joan Baez at Oakland's Paramount Theater and opening for Bonnie Raitt at Shoreline Amphitheater where Trelawny's impassioned solos brought the audience to its feet. Many extraordinary experiences followed - singing for Bishop Desmond Tutu at Grace Cathedral, performing for Mikhail Gorbachev during his visit to the San Francisco Bay Area, and travel with the choir to Canada, Australia, and Israel.
Trelawny's first release is an extraordinary vocal duo project with the Washington DC powerhouse, Amikaeyla. In a beautiful tribute to the late singer Eva Cassidy, the album titled "To Eva With Love," features stellar performances by GRAMMY nominated trombonist, Wayne Wallace, GRAMMY nominated percussionist John Santos, bassist David Belove, guitarist Vince Mellone, pianist Simon Rochester and David Flores on the drums.
Currently, Trelawny is working on music for her upcoming solo debut album. This upcoming release will experiment by treating well-loved pop standards with a jazz sensibility to create an exciting solo debut. Trelawny will bring to life those early impressions of her parent's vinyl collection including tunes by Joni Mitchel, Pink Floyd, Kurt Elling and others into a collection of her original tunes.
