About this project
All funds will be used to undertake the final steps necessary to finish the film. This will include paying costly fees for music usage rights, translating the doc into different languages to increase access, and creating various exhibition copies of the film. Also, if enough money is gathered, it will allow me to print DVDs in bulk rather than in smaller (and ultimately costlier) installments!
With your help, this independent, artistically motivated film will compete with big studio-backed productions. The US Premiere, at the Lincoln Center in New York (http://filmlinc.com/wrt/onsale/tarkovsky/meetingandreitarkovsky.html), represents an important step forward. However, your financial support is critical in order for this documentary to reach a broad audience around the globe!
The film itself explores the legacy of one of Russia's most influential directors, Andrei Tarkovsky. Besides investigating the heritage of this cinematic genius, the documentary ponders a more universal, philosophical idea that was often expressed by Tarkovsky: that death doesn't exist. Dmitry Trakovsky, 26, is a director fascinated by the spiritual possibilities of expression that the language of film offers. His first work, "Meeting Andrei Tarkovsky", received much of its funding from a fledgling Kickstarter in 2009. The movie went on to become an international success, screening at more than 100 venues around the world. Please help the filmmaker begin his second feature-length project, a documentary about Alaska’s Yup’ik people currently titled "Arctic Cross".
