Sneak Preview screening next month in LA

Update #21 · Nov 9, 2012 · comment

Big news! This little documentary is about to make it's grand entrance into society next month at the US High Speed Rail Conference in Los Angeles, CA. It will screen to a VIP audience of train experts (which makes us both nervous and excited!) at 2pm on Dec. 3, 2012.

Although this will not be the feature length version of the film, (it's a special 30 minute version made especially for the conference), we think it will be great publicity before we start submitting to film festivals.

Gearing up for the conference we finally launched www.trainsformingamericafilm.com which has a new trailer for you to check out!

*If you are a backer then your name appears in the credits of the film! Thanks again for helping us get this far, now it's time for the fun part!

Almost done!

Update #20 · Sep 20, 2012 · 1 comment

As you all know we've been working on this film for about a year and a half, and are happy to say it's almost finished! It's really looking good! Thanks to animations that were donated from The California High Speed Rail Authority and some green screen work that was filmed by the Film Crew Technology Crew at Columbia State Community College.

Our hope is to bring up some new ideas about how we travel in the U.S. Even though Trainsforming America is definitely in the same category as other documentary's about sustainable living like Urbanized and Who Killed The Electric Car we tried to interview experts that have studied less obvious factors to travelling. We definitely learned a lot, and think everyone who see's the film will, too.

Filming sketches for Trainsforming America soon

Update #19 · Jul 23, 2012 · 1 comment

I'm excited to finish filming for Trainsforming America with the help of the Nashville Film Institute. I talked with Read Ridley today and he is going to help me film my car scene. The students at NFI will also help. I'm going to drive my car into the studio and film in front of a green screen. I've never done anything like this before so I'm very glad to have their help. I also have to give major props to Demetria Kalodimos for connecting me with NFI and she's going to hook me up with some hilarious props, so get ready to laugh people!

Last week I was listening to NPR, it was the science friday episode, and guess what it was about? High Speed Rail! They talked a lot about the conference that I missed in Philadelphia. I really wanted to go. I applied for a press pass in Feb but they didn't respond until 4 days before the conference!! So, there was no way I could do it :( I am really glad I got to go to the one in S.F. though. Anyways, hearing that piece really made me want to get this film finished asap. The momentum is high and I want to be a part of keeping it up. I was worried CA's funding for HSR would be pulled, but it wasn't! Props to CA4HSR and CAHSRA for all their hard work on that front! I'm very happy that everything is still steadily chugging along. (just let me have my train puns, thanks!)

I plan to be finished filming by mid August. hooray!

Next stop, San Fran!

Update #18 · Feb 21, 2012 · comment

I know it's been a while since our last update, so I'm sure you're all wondering if we're still on track...(I literally can't stop the train puns).

We interviewed a couple who lives in Italy in December. Very enlightening! They talked about how traveling on trains can put you in better touch with humanity, and posed the question of whether that is a good thing, or not? What do you think?

This weekend we're heading to the golden state, California! We'll be interviewing Daniel Krause who is the executive director of Californians for High Speed Rail. They have dedicated the whole site www.standupfortrains.org to advocating for CA HSR, because they know that it will have to happen there first before it spreads to the rest of the country. And it's definitely time to get moving!

We keep hearing that gas prices are going to skyrocket by summer, and we say, bring it! The higher gas prices go the more obvious it will be that we need to move on to more sustainable modes of transportation. So, if you have friends or relatives in CA direct them to the Stand Up for Trains website where they can easily send a message to their specific representative. This is the year for High Speed Rail!
