Update #9 · May 20, 2011 · comment

Hey everyone,

When we sent out our official last update on Kickstarter, a lot of people asked us if there was a way they could continue to follow our progress, as well as stay in the loop on the behind-the-scenes looks into producing Off Off Broadway theatre.  In response, we decided to start a tumblr page where we will be able post important updates and exciting information as we get closer and closer to opening The Short Fall on June 3rd. You all are the reason that we're able to produce this play—we'd love to keep you involved.

To inaugurate this new blog, our costume designer Kate R. Mincer has graciously allowed us to post the beautiful and wonderfully detailed character sketches that she has created for The Short Fall. You'll be able to see how, even before the production reaches the stage, our talented designers are able to realize this world in their heads and help us bring it to life in front of you.

You can check out the designs here:

Decide to follow us on tumblr and you can expect many more cool updates to come.

Thanks again,

James, Jon, Ryan, Mike

Final Kickstarter Update

Update #8 · Apr 21, 2011 · comment
Dear family, friends, and supporters of Toy Box Theatre Company,

Can you believe it's already been six weeks? It seems like just yesterday that we launched our Kickstarter campaign to raise $20,000. Now here we are, two days from the end and almost 25% over our goal.

We can’t thank you enough.

As the clock ticks down on our Saturday deadline, we’d like to remind every one of you that this success is due entirely to your individual efforts. Each of us would like to express our deep personal gratitude. We’d also like to thank you on behalf of all of the actors, musicians, and designers that we will be able to employ as a direct result of your support.

Our new schedule of two-show seasons starts this June with the premiere of David Caudle’s The Short Fall. Beginning right away with this production, expect some great things. We intend to keep our part of the bargain and show you that your donations went to the right cause. You will see us raise the bar with each of our productions, constantly seeking to expand the boundaries of Off Off Broadway theatre, challenge and entertain our audiences, and create a home for talented and hard-working artists.

Thank you for helping us get this far, and we hope you stick around for the rest of the journey.

Yours,

Jon, Mike, Ryan, and James Toy Box Theatre Company

Dream cast for The Short Fall? Done!

Update #7 · Apr 14, 2011 · comment

We are happy to announce that we've cast the entire ensemble for The Short Fall.  In the course of the nine seasons that Toy Box Theatre Company has been around we've learned that no matter how much care and hard work we put in, our productions are only as good as our cast of actors. If the cast we've just finished assembling today is any evidence, this production is going to be amazing.

How did we get this incredible cast?  When possible, Toy Box likes to keep things in the family. So, returning from our fall production of Woyzeck, we are lucky to have the wonderful actors Ron Bopst, Ryan Reilly, and our very own company member Ryan Colwell. (Each of the Ryans have appeared in two other Toy Box productions. This will be Ron's fourth!) And new to Toy Box, but someone whose performances we've admired with our friends at Operating Theater, is the very talented Beth Stine.

Some roles, however, require going outside our circles to find someone new and unexpected. This was the case for the crucial roles of Tabby and her teenage daughter Louvre. Out of over 900 submissions, we auditioned 40 actresses last Friday at the Alliance of Resident Theatres (ART/NY) facilities in midtown Manhattan. After a very long but enjoyable day we found our Tabby and Louvre. So we welcome to our cast Dori Legg and Kally Duling.

Rehearsals start May 2nd, and we couldn't be more excited about moving forward and unveiling this production for you in June.

Thank you all so much for your continued support. Your generosity is a huge inspiration.

Next up: production team!
