About this project

Learning shouldn't be complicated – for it’s when we begin to learn, that we begin to excel. Even the most complex of tasks is a series of simple steps. We teach you how to learn to make the complex, simple.

My name is Tony Ross, owner & creator of tonyteach.com, and we at tonyteach create video tutorials and classes (the majority of which are free) primarily for beginners and novices – teaching computer graphics, animation, motion graphics, video effects & editing, and web design using Flash®, Photoshop®, Toon Boom® Animate® and more...

Recently, I did a series of simple, Matte Painting tutorials using just Adobe® Photoshop®. The response to date has been simply remarkable. It even landed on Google’s 1st page for the search term “photoshop matte painting”.

I believe one of the reasons this series of tutorials were so successful is because they were very simple and easy to follow. Even though there are plenty of matte painting tutorials online, there are very few that cater to the novice or the beginner.

Kickstarter, with your help, we would like to change this.

In 2012, tonyteach will be releasing several tutorial DVDs, the first of which will be Simple Matte Paintings (to be released in March). We are looking to raise $1,000 to help with production, equipment purchases and rentals.

Help us to teach film-makers — novice, beginner, or any level — that they can take their audience to any place or time simply by adding digital matte paintings to their films.

Thanks!

FAQ

  • When I taught college, on the first day of class, I would tell my students “I will not call you by name until you've earned it. If, by the end of the semester, I am not calling you by name, it’s not that I’m bad with names, it’s that your work sucked, and that’s not my fault”.

It became part of my reputation, and a kind of game. Students worked very hard to earn their names, and simultaneously pushed the level of polish in their work.

  • Good Question! There are 3 complete tutorials that I released FREE online (moon, mountain, and signs), you can view them here http://www.tonyteach.com/2011/10/matte-painting-tutorials/ enjoy :)

Backers who pledge $5 or more get the HD downloads of these 3 tutorials, plus the source footage & Photoshop files. Buying these HD Downloads off of the tonyteach site does not include the Photoshop files (this is exclusively for our Kickstarter backers).

Backers who pledge $15 or more get the above mentioned HD Downloads, plus the Simple Matte Painting DVD or Downloads (for DVD requests add 5.95 S&H). These are 10 new tutorials that have not been released (table of contents coming soon).

When the DVD is released in March, it will retail for $25 plus S&H. Your donation of $15 + $5.95 S&H will lock in a $10 discount for you.
