Some folks have been asking, so it's time to give you all a little update on the custom maps, plus another interesting project I'm working on. I spent the weekend doing final touch ups on four of the custom maps, and they are now ready to go to their owners (and one is already delivered). Here are a few little previews:
I'm having a great time with these, but I'm a bit behind at this stage. Custom maps are hard! I foolishly decided to modify my core technique and had to toss a couple of failed experiments. So the conclusion is--maps are getting done slowly but surely! Also, when they are all done, I will make a PDF of them and provide it to all backers.
Also, I'm working on another project. This doesn't have to do with art or gaming, but it does involve ancient manuscripts, a daring smuggling operation, and the city of Timbuktu. I've been working this last month as the manager of a crowdfunding campaign for Timbuktu Libraries in Exile (http://igg.me/at/LibrariesInExile/). I'll let the project page tell the story:
In 2012, under threat from fundamentalist rebels, a team of archivists, librarians, and couriers evacuated an irreplaceable trove of manuscripts from Timbuktu at great personal risk. The manuscripts have been saved from immediate destruction, but the danger is not over. A massive archival effort is needed to protect this immense global heritage from loss.
We're raising funds to preserve these threatened manuscripts from loss. If this is of any interest to you, I urge you to check out the Indiegogo campaign (http://igg.me/at/LibrariesInExile/).
Thanks again for being the best bunch of backers in the world!
