Update #4: Up and Running!

Posted on September 12, 2010

Hello fabulous backers!

Open For Business!

We opened on schedule on September 1st, and I couldn't be happier with how things have gone so far! We've got an incredible crew here and it's growing a little bit every day. People are cranking away on work and events are already starting to take place!

If you're in the area, come visit us! No appointment is necessary and we're happy to have you along.

Your Rewards

Since we opened, we've been working nonstop to make sure everything works well in the new space-- we'll keep at it over the next several weeks and months, but it's also time for us to start fulfilling your well-earned rewards for helping us out!

We'll start reaching out to every one of you soon to get the details we need.

Impact

Already, after just 12 days, NWC 2.0 has done the following things:

- Become a new home to dozens of independent folks
- Hosted a homeless startup whose new space wasn't ready
- Hosted our first of what will be many Girl Develop It classes, where 30 women began learning how to become developers
- Hosted Startup Weekend, a weekend-long startup-building hackathon, with over 150 people, that formed 27 teams and built amazing new startups

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Up, up, and away!

- Mayor Tony

Update #3: Last Day! Celebrating and Making the Final Push!

Posted on August 27, 2010

HOLY MOLY people, 240 backers and going strong! Could we put together just over $4k on our last day to hit $20k? We will see!

Our Kickstarter expires at midnight tonight, and we're making the final push in style. Join us tonight as we count down to the end!

TONIGHT: NWC 2.0 Kickoff Party

Before we finish tidying up the space for next week's first day open for business, we're throwing a party tonight to celebrate making it through a crazy summer of construction and fundraising. Join us and meet some of the amazing people in the community! http://planca.st/8Rs

TOMORROW: Painting, Assembling, Hardware Hacking, and Lady Gaga!

We'll be spending all weekend painting lots of walls, building furniture, running ethernet cable, developing our entry system, and more. We need all hands on deck this weekend, so if you're game for helping build NWC's new space, come on by at 12:00 this Saturday and Sunday! We'll have plenty of water (and probably some leftover booze) on hand.

On Sunday evening, after we're done, we'll be doing a special video as part of my NWC fundraising dare, performing a Lady Gaga song. NWC member Alex Godin will be shooting the video, and we'll be recruiting extras! http://planca.st/8Rt

WEDNESDAY: Soft Opening of New Space!

September 1st will be our first day open for business at 412 Broadway, Second Floor. We'll have all the basics in place (desks, chairs, internet, bathroom, conference rooms, power, lights, etc), but we fully expect to be working out some kinks. Do feel welcome to come check the space out, but bear with us as we iron out all the bugs and finish our outfitting.

Thanks

We've come an incredibly long way in the last few months, and it's all thanks to the collective support and effort of an amazing group of people. Thank you for making this a reality. This is your space, and soon we will all be able to do all sorts of great things within its walls together.

Hope to see you tonight!

Cheers,
Mayor Tony

Update #1: Construction! Happy Hour! Launch Party! And More!

Posted on August 16, 2010

Hello everyone!

Holy wow, what a ride it has been! 180 people from around the world have stepped up so far to help make this project a reality, and with just under two weeks to go, we're on track to make our goal!

Thank you, so much, every one of you, for helping out. I hope I can personally high five every single one of you sometime soon.

Progress on the Space
We're hard at work getting the space ready for a 9/1 launch, with crews working all day on building everything out. Stay up to date on the construction and outfitting here: http://blog.nwc.co

New Partnerships
We're working on closing deals with a handful of launch partners this week and next. These will be special programs we set up with external organizations to help make the community awesomer.

If your organization or someone you know is interested in partnering with us on a program, let me know!

Community Happy Hour This Wednesday
NWC's happy hour event, TechDrinks, meets this Wednesday at Woodwork in Prospect Heights. Great drink and food specials frame a perfect opportunity to get to know fellow NWC members in a more relaxed, social setting. Learn more and join us here! http://bit.ly/aKuc7D

Launch Party! Friday, 8/27
We're kicking off our new space in style by throwing a party before we open the new space for business. We'll be gathering in the nearly-ready space to celebrate on the night of Friday, August 27th.

Basic details and RSVP here: http://plancast.com/a/45m0. Stay tuned here for more details as they emerge.

If you were wondering if this party was going to be awesome, the answer to that is "Yes. Very."

More to Come Soon!
This week, we'll be talking a lot about purchases for the new space (furniture, fixtures, lighting, etc), announcing our new membership structure, and introducing one or two new more Kickstarter levels with some spiffy new offerings. Stay tuned!

Thank You
Seriously, you are amazing. The contribution you've made to this project is going to go a long way toward helping a lot of people. I look forward to sharing the experience with you all along the way.

Cheers!
