Unnamed Lands has grown into one of our most inspired projects ever. You can help give it the best possible final product and launch.
With the release of Unnamed Lands, Bert Lams and I are celebrating the completion of a project over four years in the making. Fourteen original instrumental tracks tie together with artwork and text to tell the adventures of a North American wagon train journey through one traveler’s personal experiences circa 1840.
What started as a simple idea to make an album together, changed course dramatically. Many of the original pieces we were working on seemed to tie together and suggest a story, and a theme emerged. The more time we spent writing and recording, the more the project took on a life of its own. The story presented itself as if it was just meant to be there.
Throughout this process Bert and I have never cut corners, from using the best equipment and the best people to just simply taking whatever time was necessary to make the ideas as strong as they could be. To date we have funded everything ourselves, from our airfares to get together to the recording, mixing, mastering, etc. Currently we are finishing up the artwork with some amazing artists from Belgium who call themselves Milk Graphic Design. They have done several covers for myself and The California Guitar Trio in the past and were our first choice for this project because they offer a fantastic mix of both digital layout and hand drawn art skills. We provided them with the music and stories to go along with the pieces and they have responded with some amazing art to help tie it all together.
Bert and I have started this Kickstarter campaign to offer you some great exclusive items and packages and to help us raise funds to make sure we can finish and release the project with the same 'no compromises' approach we've taken all along. You'll find everything from just the CD itself to a bonus album, a DVD, poster, hi resolution audio and even a chance to share what it was like working on the album!

Occasionally, I've reflected on the parallels between the leap of faith the early prairie travelers took in their journey and what Bert and I have done here. In an age where downloading singles is more the norm, we’ve gone the opposite direction entirely and said "here is a body of work that stands on its own." Something continually drove us to pursue the music to this point. It’s a unified whole and one of the most inspired projects either of us has ever been involved with.

One of the instruments used on Unnamed Lands, this 12-string Chapman Stick was also the primary or only Stick used on every Tom Griesgraber solo album, every Agent 22 album and the Marotta/Griesgraber album.
