Columbia has great musicians and DJs that I'd somehow missed for years. With your help I want to record what they do for all to see.
See that band in the video above? That's a local (to Columbia, South Carolina) band that goes by the name of Silent Spring Ensemble (http://soundcloud.com/silent-spring-ensemble). Two weeks ago I'd never heard of them, but after seeing them live once I love them. I've found more local bands in the past month than I've heard in the past ten years by hunting down shows in the area for bands to photograph. I started a website dedicated to all things regarding local bands and bands that pass through Columbia called localsc.tumblr.com where I post all photographs that I've taken of the shows I go to. But it's frustrating to try to tell someone how good a band is rather than just show them. Not everyone I know can make it to a show, and I'm pretty sure all of you out there in different parts of the world can't drop evverything for a road trip.
I want to show the world what Columbia's music scene has. There is a wealth of young musicians out there playing the music they love for whoever's willing to listen. I want to conduct some informal interviews, record some performances at local venues, and capture a few acoustic sets of the best music I can find here in Columbia, South Carolina.
Why Come To Kickstarter?
Do you see that low quality video at the top of this page? Do you hear how bad it sounds? That's the type of equipment I have now, which lets you know why I haven't already made this project happen, showering the internet with footage of bands. I need your help to get better video, sound, and lighting equipment to make this project possible. In exchange there are many lovely rewards that will be yours which are listed on the right side of this page. Hopefully you'll help me make this project a reality!
