So many people miss instant film, or have never used it. Give some away with me & receive a portrait from a stranger in return

I'm writing this on the internet so it seems backwards to say, but I want things to be less digital and detatched. For instance, I'd rather be saying this to you in person instead of typing it.

I take an obscene amount of photographs, and once I've finished a roll of film that's full of pictures from a concert or wedding I'm shooting, instead of handing someone a stack of prints I always end up showing the world what I've done by posting the photos on the internet like the rest of the world. You don't get to see the look on someone face when they see something they like that way; you miss the chance to discuss a photo and linger over something in your hands. Instead of giving someone a picture as a gift, you email them a file; instead of going to a cool shop where you can learn to develop your own film, you have a memory card and a screen. I say let's do something different.

The Project:

I know a lot of people that have a special place in their hearts for Polaroids, and even a few that have never used an instant camera. I've got cameras they've never seen before that put a look of wonder in their eyes. I want to give them a chance to use something that barely exists in the world when compared to a digital camera. During the month of May, I want to hand friends and especially strangers a Polaroid camera and let them take a photo that they can hold in their hand and keep. And for a few individuals, I want to give them an entire pack of film and let them go on an adventure where they get to watch what they see in the world develop right before their eyes. With your help we can give as many people as possible an experience they wouldn't have otherwise.

What Do You Get In Return?

Since the point of this project is to give things away, I can't very well leave you out. Depending on how much you donate, you'll receive rewards like a hand written thank you note from the person you give a Polaroid to, a Polaroid that I take of the recipiant of your gift, and a Polaroid that they take specically for you. There is a full list of rewards on the right side of this page.

So let's create something tangible and interact in a way that lasts.
