A Bit Later and Way Better.
I'm writing with some very unfun news: we've postponed shooting the October 9 TV pilot at Largo. Here's why: while the Largo is historic and gorgeous and amazing in all kinds of ways — if you've been there, you know — it's also strikingly intimate. That means having the amount of cameras we need to shoot an earth-quaking pilot just wasn't possible in the space. Which we've just discovered. Should we have known all of this sooner? Don't get me started.
So, we decided — and it was a hard decision that, miraculously, is very quickly proving to be the right one — that this is a moment, and a show, we cannot compromise. We owe our absolute best to the 309 funders on Kickstarter (who we want to hug so much right now), and to the 41,000 people who have attended our 242 shows around the world. To put it bluntly: we feel this is our chance to change the book world forever, and it has to be excellent.Here's the plan: we're at work on finding another, perfect, gorgeous theatre that fits our every need (which we clearly understand, now). Already, we're working on making the all-star lineup we had slated for Tuesday even more dynamite. The date is in limbo, but we're going to aim for December, though nothing is concrete. When it is, you'll be the first to know (which is absolutely true).
As for the glass-is-totally-full news: since the cancellation decision late yesterday afternoon, we've had two meetings, which are already having an awesome and immediate impact on what the pilot will be. And the tweaks to the show that came out of those meetings emphasize what's best about LDM while giving us an even better shot at our ultimate aim of getting this show on television. What I've learned: we have to do this right. We're going to do this right, without compromise. And it's gonna be sweet.
An important note: If you had a ticket to see the pilot, of course you'll still have a ticket to see the pilot.
I can't tell you how difficult and exhausting the process of getting LDM to pilot-state has been. But it's been totally worth it, because I know what's on the other side. Too, I've been motivated like never before by the funding support we've gotten. Our aim for this pilot has always been to pull off a masterpiece, and, in turn, honor our supporters in a way that will make them proud. And that's exactly what we're going to do. Believe it.
