About this project
The Yarn Monster is a DIY electric yarn winder with a unique look and wireless remote control. The project is being redesigned from the ground up so that it can be offered as both a kit and a fully assembled product.
All of the designs, hardware schematics and source code will be released under open software and hardware licences.
There will be three separate versions of the Yarn Monster:
- Yarn Monster Kit - Includes the unassembled electronic winder components without the main monster shell and remote monster shell.
- Yarn Monster - Fully assembled version with wireless remote.
- Kickstarter Limited Edition Yarn Monster - Fully assembled version with wireless remote, custom Kickstarter colors and limited edition badges.
All donations will be used to develop new PCB prototypes and monster shell designs. BatchPCB and Ponoko will be used to produce both the prototypes and final versions of the Yarn Monster.

All of the case schematics, logo graphics, PCB schematics (CadSoft Eagle), list of components, component suppliers and source code will be released on unionbridge.org.
You will be able to build both the electric winder and case without purchasing anything from me. The packaged kit will save you from having to etch your own PCBs, and also save you from having to buy all of the electronic components separately.
