The last video #7: John Penton on Donna joining the Pentons

Update #29 · Jan 13, 2013 · 1 comment

Hi all!

With 34 hours left of this successful campaign, this will be the last video of this series before we actually have a movie made. You'll just now have to wait. :)

In this short excerpt, after his transcontinental record setting run in 1959, John talks about the circumstances that his wife Donna joined the Penton family.

Others can still be part of the project by January 14th, 2013 at Kickstarter.com so spread the word or re-pledge if you haven't from the first campaign last summer

Thanks for the support on this the last couple months and we, along with Lyle Lovett, look forward to bringing the Penton story to the world.

Kindest regards,

Todd

OVER THE TOP!!!! (and a fun video with Bob "Hurricane" Hannah about John Penton)

Update #28 · Jan 11, 2013 · comment

WE DID IT AND THANK YOU!!!!!

As of this morning we went past the goal of $150,000 to $153,000 with more pledges coming in. Thanks to a bunch of fine folks who pledged and Alpinestars who sent it over the top joining KTM USA and Acerbis with great industry support!

We still have 3 days to go and hope others still want to be part of this historic motorcycle film project for as little as $1! If you have not re-pledged from the first time you must start over as they did not roll-over. Check your name on this list of backers to make sure you are included.

There still will be post-production funds needed later in the year for editing, graphics, music, archival materials handling, etc. so every little bit helps!

For now, enjoy this short video from a telephone conversation I had with longtime John Penton friend Bob "Hurricane" Hannah the other night about John, Hi-Point Boots and Donna Penton's Quilt.

Thanks again to everyone for their support!

Video #6-Dane Leimbach on the 1976 ISDT bikes

Update #27 · Jan 7, 2013 · comment

Hi all,

This is the fifth of six videos in a short series from interviews with John and Jack Penton and the late Dane Leimbach for the forthcoming film, "The John Penton Story" narrated by Grammy Winner, Lyle Lovett.

In this short piece, Dane Leimbach describes his favorite ISDT event in 1976 and how the bikes that year were prepped in the US. Dane passed away in 2011 after battling ALS for several years. We are so fortunate to have captured some of his great stories about being part of the "Penton Clan" for the film before he passed.

We are dedicating this piece and today to Dane's mother Pat (John Penton's sister) who passed away just the other day. We were looking forward to including her stories in the movie but know her spirit will be there. Our hearts go out to the entire Penton and Leimbach families and friends.

Thank you for supporting the project already and if you haven't "re-pledged" again, here is the link for the new project;

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/toddhuffman/the-john-penton-story-narrate...

We have 7 days to go with a little less than $18,000 still left to pledge.

Thanks again everyone and keep spreading the word!

Torsten Hallman Makes a Pledge and Tells a Story...

Update #26 · Jan 5, 2013 · comment

All,

4-Time World Motocross Champion, Torsten Hallman made a nice pledge for the film the other day and followed it up with a neat and interesting story via email that I asked him If I could share with you all. He said "Sure". Here is Torsten's email to me:

(Torsten Hallman-1/3/13)

Hi Todd,

Happy New Year to you too!

I am in for the Penton-Huffman Project! So does this mean that you will come to Sweden once more to talk about Penton? Hallman Racing in Uppsala was the first country in the world (after the US of course!) that imported the Pentons!

For your info - The deal was made one evening with John in a hotel in Salzburg, Austria after he wanted my suggestions what should/could be changed on “his Penton”. The next morning we went together to Mattighofen and had a meeting with Mr. Trunkenpolz with our suggested changes on a piece of paper. Most of it read “make like Husqvarna”!

Of course John will not bring this up but you should make a joke with him about it – to see if he remember the story! John was a remarkable man – and I have to thank him for all the help – and all the trust we at Hallman Racing Inc. in La Mesa* got from him. Open credit!!!! I think I already told you the story! Good Luck with the project and hope to see you at some race in the future! Take care!

Torsten

* Torsten Hallman Racing in La Mesa, CA was the West Coast Distributor for Penton Motorcycles and according to Torsten, they sold a lot of Pentons. Torsten said that John sold them the bikes on open credit so Hallman did not have to have money up front. This helped the young Torsten Hallman Racing (Now THOR) make it and grow in the early years.

Over $130,000 and 9 days to go! Let's reach $135,000+ by midnight tonight!

Keep spreading the word!

Thanks everyone for their support!
