Dear Backers,

There's been a bit of a strange development with our manufacturer and we wanted to keep all of you posted because it could affect delivery time. Additionally, we have a video of illustration, and an announcement about the layout.

Manufacturing

As we mentioned last time, we've been talking to a company in Tokyo that has a machine-based technique for folding Miura sheets. Things were coming along nicely, they were testing Tyvek samples we sent them in their machine, and then suddenly for the past 7 days, it's been complete radio silence from them. We are hoping that we're freaking out over nothing and that we'll hear back soon, but in order to make our May delivery estimate we cannot afford to wait much longer. If we don't hear back by Friday evening, we'll go back to the original plan of hand-folding each map.

Illustration

Happily, the layout and illustration is coming together beautifully. The crew at Borgarmynd are finishing up the watercoloring of the map tiles, and they made a time-lapse that you can watch as well!

Layout

We originally were doing the layout of the "front" side of the guide (the side that contains the information about each spot depicted on the map) ourselves, but the more we saw of the map illustration and how much work was going into making it amazing, the more sense it made to find someone who could make something equally great for the info side. To that end, we're stoked to announce that Aen Tan, an extremely talented designer from Singapore will be doing the layout for the TOC Guide to SF. We've been fans of Aen's work for quite a while; you can check it out here.

Thanks again for backing our project; we're going to do everything we can to make sure it gets delivered on time, and we will be doing more-frequent backer updates until we get the manufacturing issues sorted.
