About this project

When I started www.themacuniverse.com I had a vision. That vision was to provide a fantastic resource for technology minded folk. People that have a passion for all things Apple and the Mac platform. I am not looking to expand the project further. I want to reach out to many people to provide a great visual and physical resource.

I have become aware that there are just not many eco-friendly cases out there for the choosing. I want to provide a good solution for the fine folks that prefer something unique as well as an animal free alternative. Many cases these days rely on leather or other animal byproducts in their construction and we don't think that should be the only solution when protecting our technology.

What do we want to do?

We want to make eco-friendly cases made from recycled materials, upcycled materials, and other second hand goods. This way it provides a good resource for materials that would otherwise end up in a landfill as well as providing customers with the peace of mind that they are helping save the environment by using recycled materials. We also want to offer regular textile blends as well. We plan to sell these on our website.

We also want to build amazing iPad applications. We have several ideas for applications that yet to be done the way we vision them. Think of a virtual parlor or art gallery that you can tap "walk" through. We want to make this possible. We have spoken with various graphics artist and photographers that are well established in their fields of expertise. So we have some content for the application, just no means of making it fully functional yet.

How do we plan to do it?

We plan on raising the funds to kick start our case and application production. We have many resources but we are currently lacking in physical hardware. This is not necessarily a business expense as it is more of an art medium. We plan to hand sew and create the cases by hand methods. No factory equipment here ladies and gentlemen.

What is the money for?

The goal for the money is to provide us with an established fund to purchase an Apple iPad for hardware testing purposes as a development platform and as a full size template. The money will also aid in a full developer license from Apple. We also plan to use the money toward textiles, bonding agents, fabrics, threads, plastics and other hardware attachments that will be used for the cases. Buttons, zippers, etc.

We also plan to use a portion of the funds for printed labels and fliers to hand out at local craft gatherings.
