About this project
Dear Everyone - friends, family, music-lovers, lovers-lovers, etc,
I am right now in the process of recording my newest EP. It's called "Apollo," and I think you're really going to like it! While writing songs for you is not expensive, it turns out that bringing them to completion in the studio IS. This is why I've started this Kickstarter, and this is why I need your help!
I want to these tracks to shine, I want the mixing and the mastering to match the music and I need the means to make this move! Whatever you want to contribute - $1, $10, $20, onward and upward, to launch this new third album, I will make it worth your while and I will be SO grateful for ever and ever amen.
There's a lot of new Tica material to come, and this will set the wheels in motion. So come on, please come with me, let's go!

For $50 I will dress in a bow and a santa hat and stand anywhere -- inside or out -- that your loved one may be and I will play anything -- whether I wrote it or not -- that you request. Example: maybe you know that your loved one always gets off a bus at a certain time to go home, and your special song with this person is "Enchanted" by Taylor Swift. I will stand at that bus stop at that time and I will wait until I see them and I will sing that song to them. Originally from Maine and now living in Harlem, Tica Douglas' songs are built by lyrics but obsessed with melody; her music has been described as "exuberant and catchy urban folk."
Tica's musical models reach far and wide and this comes across in her music. Her sound shows strains of Joe Strummer-like punk, Jolie Holland-like lilts, The Tallest Man on Earth-like soothe and Swagga Like Us. Her rhythm-heavy guitar playing compliments her lyrics and vocal style, which flow and dip into unexpectedly slow sweetness.
At times wordy, always imbued with a wisdom beyond her years, Tica shows what a student of religion and literature who spent her childhood on the Maine coast listening to Brian Wilson and Bob Dylan can bring to the table when she packs up her massive songbag and moves to the big city. "While most confine themselves to either straightforward storytelling or purely confessional lyrics, Tica is an expert in crossing the boundary between the two. In conjunction with her unique singing style, this causes the listener to become totally immersed in her songs" (OOTB, Edinburgh UK).
She has played in a number of bands, spending a year in Edinburgh, UK, where she toured and amassed a fanbase, holding a weekly residence at a number of venues. Now back in the US, Tica is playing shows all throughout NYC (check out the www.ticadouglas.com for details!), and planning a stateside tour coming soon.
Tica released her first full-length album "I Love Mahself, Yup Yup" -- an acoustic collection of simple melodies and catchy ideas -- in the Fall of 2010. You can download this, as well as her EP "The Edinburgh Tracks", at www.ticadouglas.bandcamp.com.
