Hi! I'm Tiara the Merch Girl, emerging burlesque/circus/improv performer and creative services provider. As The Merch Girl, I assist other productions and events with anything they need to get their show going - stage management, tickets & merch sales, artist liaison, popping popcorn, lighting candles, anything! I am also helpful before and after the production - doing research, brainstorming, managing fanmail, that sort of thing.
Currently I have performed at Cabaret Burlesque Brisbane (earning 3rd Place in the New Talent category for a groundbreaking performance based on my experiences with Islam), The Vagina Monologues Brisbane (as The Woman who Loved to Make Vaginas Happy) and semi-regularly with Edge Improv. I'm also about to perform with Vulcana Women's Circus at the Island Vibe festival at the end of October - exciting!
I have provided services for QAHC's Cabaret Q, Star Rae Revue, Project Blue, Zenobia Frost, and various others on a voluntary and paid basis. I am an avid volunteering and have been working with Brisbane-based events such as the Brisbane Writers Festival, the Brisbane Festival, the Woodford Folk Festival, and various others over the past 3 years.
What's The Money For?
I need two basic things to start functioning at the bare minimum as The Merch Girl:
1. Business name registration in Queensland - $127/year
2. Individual Performer Insurance (Level 2) - $170/year
Having these two things will allow me to work legitimately and relatively risk-less as a business provider and performer.
I'm being assisted by the awesome Leah of Leah Creates to collect the money on my behalf (since I'm in Australia), so 5% of the total goes to her, and there's also an overall 5% on top to cover Kickstarter costs. All up it only costs $300 - a relatively small amount, but one that goes a long way!
Extra funds will go towards:
* Training and workshops - both performance and business
* The Merch Girl Kit - first aid, stationery, makeup, all sorts of tapes, and anything else a show often needs but doesn't have
* Costumes and accessories to look awesome
* Travel to other events and festivals across Australia and the world
* Website and domain costs
* Advertising
* Helping other people be awesome (perhaps another Kickstarter project!)
Assist me and you will allow me to assist other creative people who are currently working too hard on their own. An extra pair of hands (and an extra brain) will allow them to relax and concentrate on creating an awesome show, which encourages all of us to create more - and more awesome work is produced! Win for all! Supporting me also supports cultural diversity in the fringe arts, as well as further work to encourage and support diversity and inclusion.
