About this project

(fyi all donations in $US)

Fact:

THERE ARE WELL OVER 6.5 BILLION PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER HEARD MY SONGS AND THIS STATISTIC EMBARRASSES ME TO NO END...
(even though you can go to www.lankyyankee.com/music.html to hear a few).

So I have decided that it's time to head into the studio and record an album of new songs that everyone from the rice farmers of Asia to the Laplander mafia of Arctic Norway will enjoy. But this time around, instead of just me and my laptop, I am going to head into a proper studio with someone much more talented than I behind the mixing desk and actual live humans playing some of the other instruments. There will be friends involved and an over-arching climate of pleasant creativity will be administered. If all goes well, this will be done back in Minneapolis this summer because it is such a good place to dig up the ghosts of Dylan, The Replacements, and that Chocolate Rain kid. It is a town full of seriously talented people and deep, murky lakes.

To accomplish this feat though, I need the assistance of folks like you and as I said in the video, I am yet another label-less musician and hope that you will be my label. This endeavor will require some cash to rent the STUDIO with an ENGINEER, the MASTERING, PRINTING and LAYOUT of the album as well as all the other hidden costs involved. Like greek salads for the musicians. If I reach or exceed my goal, I will be able to pay for all of the above and even promote the little thing. And If the goal is not reached, you will not get charged and I will head to plan "B" which is to keep playing my songs secretly in my own home heard by the occasional bird who happens to be sitting on the deck.

I realize that these are not easy times but if you do have some spare cash laying around and are looking to invest in music, I guarantee this is nothing like a double-mortgage-derivative-sub-prime investment. Quite simply, it will help to make an album that I think will catch your fancy. And win a Grammy. Please pass this link (via email, Facebook, Twitter, etc.-widgets are above) on to your friends and contacts who are music lovers and who may wish to be part of Lanky Yankee Records so together we will help over 6.5 billion people experience musical bliss. Thanks for considering backing my project. Good day to you all.

I will write you a song based on the subject of your choice and will include it as a "hidden track" because "hidden tracks" are so cool. Executive producer credit if you want. You would certainly deserve it.

It's not every day that I admit that I grew up in a travelin singing family but today is your lucky day. We were a family of 8. Still are thankfully. I was the youngest and was onstage at the age of 2. We piled into a nut brown Ambassador station wagon and drove from church to church. Wisconsin. Minnesota. Iowa. Even Norway, the former East Germany, and Soviet Poland. We sang songs from The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof as well as Scandinavian folk songs and songs out of the Lutheran hymnal. I tasted music. Then I heard The Beatles, Queen and Motown. After that, I injected it.
So I played in bands in Minneapolis in the '90's and then moved down to Australia for nearly 10 years where I continued to write songs on my guitar in the alt/folk style and recorded them at home on my laptop. One collection was called The Folkadelic Two Step. There's a story behind that name. Now I am back in the U.S. living in the shadow of the Golden Gate Bridge within an arm's reach of a stoic Redwood tree with a small truck-load of songs that I'm planning on recording with friends who know their chops in a studio that smells of old amps and dying pianos. Beyond that, it's hard to predict the future and those that claim they can may be just trying to pay the rent. More power to them.
