About this project
An Ontario town is perplexed when a man is found drowned in the woods – nowhere near water. As the mystery surrounding the stranger deepens, the people of Elora become oddly spellbound. Meanwhile, something darker lurks in Elora Gorge.
From Christopher Stanton, co-creator and director of Minotaur (2 Dora Mavor Moore Nominations), comes a haunting new story in the tradition of Haruki Murakami, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and David Lynch. This is one show that will stay with you long after the lights come up.
The award-winning design team of Stanton, Trevor Schwellnus and Lindsay Anne Black have conceived of Elora Gorge as an intricate blend of dialogue, live music, soundscapes, shadow play, lights and projections. Through these elements, the play will inhabit a world in which mystery means everything and anything is possible.
Elora Gorge also boasts a large cast of Toronto theatrical luminaries, including Aviva Armour-Ostroff, Stewart Arnott, Marjorie Chan, Carlos Diaz, Kyra Harper, Carlos Gonzalez-Vio, Dov Mickelson, and Janet Porter.
Because of the innovative design and the large cast, The Room decided to bring Elora Gorge to the Kickstarter community for your support. We need your assistance to subsidize the cost of the design, as well as some minimal compensation for our hugely talented and selfless cast. Our full budget for this production comes in at just under $10,000. We hope to raise $4400 of that total here through Kickstarter.
The Room is an independent company making big, bold theatre with small budgets. As such you can rest assured that your generous contribution will make a big difference to all of the artists involved - each of whom believes strongly enough in Elora Gorge to do it for next to nothing.
Our rewards highlight the internationally-recognized work of the artists involved.
