About this project

About the expedition: Working in collaboration with Fundacion Vida Sylvestre, Parques National and the Consul of Argentina in New York, the expedition will collect a precious work of photography focused on the country's endemic endangered and threatened species. During those 6 months, I will explore the volcano Lanin, report about important migratory corridors and capture photos of wildlife from the Jungles of Missiones, the Ibera Marshes, the Andes and Patagonia.

The work from this expedition will be featured in the solo show "Wildlife of Argentina" to be held at the Consul of Argentina in New York from October 7th to 28th, 2010.

While on expedition, I will post 2 to 4 entries per month. Each entry will feature photos, video and narrative. They will appear on iWend, Kontain, Planet Exploreand Spot Adventure.

A new website has been created for this expedition: www.thewildimageproject.com. This site acts like a console, where viewers can follow the expedition practically in real time. Each day will be tracked through Spot. Photos will be posted through Flickr and will feed the gallery. Videos will be posted on Vimeo and will appear on the site.

Entries will be promoted through Twitter and Facebook.

Daniel has lived in New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Montreal, London and Cannes. He now resides in Portland, Oregon.

TESTIMONIALS

“Daniel Fox is pushing the limits of exploration in a much-respected initiative to teach us all about the fragility and beauty of our world. His Wild Image expedition, a respectful around-the-globe kayak adventure, is yielding dynamic and ravishing photography plus provocative insights about man's need to live in harmony with the extraordinary bounty of nature.” William Tomicki, Senior Editor, Traveler Overseas Magazine

“Daniel Fox is a lover of nature who possesses the wandering soul of an explorer. I also believe that he is a born "storyteller". This journey that he will undertake to remote reaches of the natural world, will provide him with rich source material for the telling of a story where the protagonists will be Nature and Spirit and Man's interaction within their realm. A gifted photographer possessing a singular sensitivity towards the object/objects of his scrutiny, Daniel will convey such a story through his camera lens. Lyrical single subject evocations or richly patterned mosaic-like impressions, all find their unique place within his "world"--a world inhabited by images of animal and human form, flora and fauna, urban and idyllic, often layered and co-existing within a range of visual possibilities. He is equally at ease exploring the visual of the quietly meditative, the teeming dense or the lushly sensual. Daniel's intense passion for Nature and unique alignment to it, will provide him with the necessary impetus and inspiration to fulfill the rigors of this exhilarating undertaking. As a result, he will emerge from his travels, with a unique photographic body of work whose aim is to inspire through this experience. Nature will be honored in all of its evocations--whether it be in its rawest of forms or most refined of states.” Vivian Bullaudy, Director, Hollis Taggart Galleries

“As an art dealer I am always on the look out for a sense of urgency - a moral purpose even - in the paintings I examine. In Daniel's work I find these qualities in abundance. Each image of a natural event becomes a wonder through his lens; we are quietly but consistently reminded how fragile, how exquisitely precious, is our world. The choice of subject and viewpoint stops us in our tracks and sometimes absorbs us completely: The sky is brought up to our face, the eye of a horse reveals an endless distance. Daniel's message is hinted at through through an intense observation of his subject; but he is not didactic and the imagery is beautiful to behold. We just know it is our duty to love our world and to look after it.There is a deep conviction at work here. We are reminded now of a line of Wordsworth, now of a drawing by Ruskin or Turner. Daniel has a great gift with which to enthrall us.” Andrew Wyld, Managing Director, W.S. Fine Art, London

"Daniel Fox is the quintessential explorer.  It's hard to imagine this man sitting idle--  it doesn't even seem possible.  No, as an editor working with Daniel, I look forward to his dispatches as they come to us, as they're guaranteed to drip with passion, courage, and stunning images the likes of which most people will never see.  One part intrepid adventurer, one part naturalist, and one part environmentalist, Fox not only uses his expedition for personal growth, but documents it adroitly with tremendous technical craft, in order to share it with the world.  His generosity of spirit makes for important work that will affect the destiny of our natural world positively.  The work he produces enriches the lives of our readers by capturing their imagination, demonstrating the hidden industry of beauty that is our uncharted world.  He claims that by the end of The Wild Image Project's life, he'll have taken 100,000 images.  Knowing him, I'll bet there will be more." Stiv Wilson, Editor In Chief, Wend Magazine

“All of us at Aquapac® are delighted to be able to support Daniel and the Wild Image Project. Traditionally we’ve supported people involved in all manner of wind-powered or human-powered expeditions. Solo-round-the-world yachtsmen, long-distance kayakers, trans-ocean rowers. Most do what they do to raise money for some worthy charity or other. Now what we have decided to do is to concentrate our sponsorship on what we call ‘outdoor champions’. These are either inspirational individuals who are helping to get people out and enjoying the great outdoors who wouldn’t or couldn’t otherwise (for example kids from deprived inner-city areas, or the physically handicapped). Or they are inspirational individuals who do what they do in order to highlight the fragility of our beautiful planet. Daniel of course sits squarely in this camp. He takes wonderful photographs of nature in its full glory. He writes lucidly for magazines about the plight of an endangered world as he sees it, at the sharp end. He is willing to sacrifice and take risks in order to help, as the song goes, make this world a better place to live in.” Tim Turnbull, CEO Aquapac

“The Wild Image Project is an ambitious, important and extremely valuable expedition. Daniel’s imaginative photography and writing, along with his enthusiasm, passion and desire, will certainly inspire people to engage and reconnect with Nature.” Alex Kirkbride, Author and Photographer, American Waters

“With Daniel’s images, I could immediately recognize the inherent passion and story. Each image also possessed an elevated technical quality which are all key ingredients of a superior work. As I got to know Daniel, I recognized he possessed a driving force and creative vision which I found compelling enough to want to be a part of bringing the work to a wider audience through our printmaking process and capabilities. Ultimately, what made me feel that each of these images were not only technically good but also creatively very strong was the composition which forcefully frames each image within a moment of place, time and circumstance. I feel fortunate to be Daniel’s fine art printer and am looking forward to the ride and rewards of seeing the Wild Image Project progress through Daniel’s words, stories and most importantly images.” Lincoln Miller, Owner, Pushdot Studio

“Daniel, you continue to be an inspiration for all Kontainers, Kontain and your viewers.” David Martin, CEO Kontain / F-i
