About this project
This fundraiser is specifically to produce Episode 13 of The Weird Girls Project – an ongoing Art Experiment which involves conceptual performance pieces. The aim of the Project is to encourage a gain in self confidence within young women, focusing especially around body issues. To get a better idea of this concept, we invite you to view the previous 12 episodes, which are uploaded on our website.
This piece will produce a video work to accompany music from Imogen Heap's Love the Earth score, which she has allowed us to use for the project. It will take place out in the devastatingly beautiful countryside in Iceland and will be the most integral piece of The Weird Girls Project Collection to date.
The project has been self funded up until this point (with the exception of some equipment costs being fronted by a few bands using the video pi2eces as promos). With the recession and economical crisis in Iceland, art grants have been slashed, living costs have spiraled and the amount of money required for materials and resources means the project has reached a standstill.
Many women have been waiting for months (some for years) for the project to have the budget for them to be included and to challenge their boundaries and boost their self confidence. In addition to supporting the project and Icelandic arts, the location for the piece has been hit by a drop in tourism sparked by the fear of volcanic ash. The cast, crew and documentary crew following the group will be staying in local accommodation - meaning we would be supporting small businesses in a financially difficult time.
Due to the permission from Warner Chappell and Imogen to make this in collaboration with her music – this will be an integral platform for the project to reach new audiences and hopefully continue to exist.
In addition, a documentary film crew have been waiting for this piece to get off the ground to follow the women involved in the Episode over the months leading up and to investigate what they gain and learn from the experience.
The budget for the piece: (All of the crew and people taking part take no salary. The budget sought is only for basic costs.)
Travel to and from the location: 200,000isk / $1750
Costumes: 100,000isk / $870
Food: 80,000isk / $700
Equipment: 100,000isk / $870
Accommodation: Now sponsored by Hostel International Iceland!
Total: $4,190
As you can see the budget is way above the amount we are stating as our minimal claim. To help support the costs, money is being borrowed and local business approached on the hope of securing equipment and transport via sponsorship. By pledging, you can get some great gifts including artwork, original Weird Girls props and costumes, opportunities to join us and much more. See our VIP perks.

Since we launched this project the wonderful Hosteling International Iceland have offered us sponsorship of the accommodation costs for the crew and cast - which is absolutely amazing!
We thank them massively!

The Weird Girls Project is an ongoing art experiment created and produced concept artist Kitty Von-Sometime. It evolves 'Episode' by 'Episode' and the participants mix between those involved from the beginning and new members increasing with every event. Each Episode is planned for approximately three months with the participants knowing as little as is possible about the event excluding the date, this includes the concept, location and costumes. As standard there will be a photo shoot and they are aware they will be filmed. The main element of the project is 'reaction to the unknown'.
Media is produced from each Episode but the project also focuses on the event itself and how the women react, improvise and morph within costume learning about their power of self combined with the strength of coming together as a group. The women are varying in ages, backgrounds and experience, and do not necessarily know each other before the day. The Project involves ordinary women rather than professional actresses or models and part of the inspiration was to encourage a gain in self confidence within young women, especially focusing around body issues.
