About this project

PROJECT:
The Shut-Ins is a short film written by Tricia Vessey & Jen George and is being shot in Brooklyn, NY, late January 2010.
The Shut-Ins is a darkly comedic Repulsion meets Grey Gardens. A rare friendship between Sig and Louisa, two misanthropic hypochondriacs, blossoms in a food stamps line in Chinatown. Sig invites Louisa to live with her and her Icelandic grandmother in their run-down basement apartment in Brooklyn. Things are going great until Grandma goes back to Iceland for the winter. Sig and Louisa, who are incapable of taking care of themselves, quickly fall apart.

SPECS:
-black and white digital video
-length: approximately 15 minutes

THE WRITERS/DIRECTORS:
Together we have written a feature length script, The Birthday Party, a pilot script, Blind Ambition and the short film The Shut-Ins. All our scripts revolve around a strong, yet flawed and funny, female lead. Our work is character driven, and our vision for the characters we've created has led us to seek independent funding so that our work can be realized without an investor who would want to make the work more commercial and the story less unique. Ultimately we would like this film to establish our style in, and serve as an introduction to, the film industry.

And really, this is our dream -- we love writing and we look forward to meeting every day to do our work.

WHERE WE ARE NOW:
We currently have a fantastic cinematographer and cast, music from Ariel Pink, a great special effects person, and a highly skilled editor on board. We are in preproduction putting together our shoot schedule, securing locations, and hiring crew etc...

WHAT WE NEED:
The money we raise here will cover crew, and equipment such as hard drives, a pro digital video camera, a lighting package, props, costumes, permits, craft services, and post production expenses, film festival submission fees and DVD copies. If we make more than our goal, we will apply the extra money to building a web site and sending our scripts out. We have a lot to get done and so everything we receive will go to getting our work rolling.

WHAT PEOPLE (MIGHT) SAY ABOUT THE FILM:
- Sweet and funny, these are fascinatingly flawed women I could watch all day!
- Sig and Louisa are cut from the same cloth as Julianne Moore's character in Safe, but funny.

SOME POSSIBLE TAG LINES:
- The sound of a 1000 cuckoo clocks going off at once.
- Birds of feather flock together...or something like that.

TIME IS TICKING:
After bouts with H1N1, cat scans, vertigo, narcolepsy and bacterial infections, we're on a manic upswing, and don't know how long it will last -- help us raise funds to shoot our first joint project while we still can.

Donate anything you can; the shirt off your back, if the shirt off your back means money in our pocket. Or clams, if clams to you means US dollars.

We promise, it'll be pretty good.
