About this project

Beyond 100% funding?
This project is happening, that's the best part! Thank you so much. But you can still be connected to it and help make it even better. It's tough to look a year down the road, anything beyond our base goal will be earmarked for flat tires (hopefully not) and book publishing (hopefully yes!).

In the winter of 2011 the cancer in my Grandfather finally took his life. Before he passed, I traveled to his farm to document his way of life and tell his story. This Wild Idea is an opportunity to shares stories across America, to create a portrait of the country, and to document your way of life.

The idea is simple, the goal is straightforward, but I need your help! I’m going meet 1 new person a day, everyday, for 365 days. The goal is to makes images that age well and increase in value over time; images that will become part of your family story, which we can pass on to the next generation.

You can help me out in a few ways! I’d love for you to change my route, so you can actually become a part of this project. This project is a new look at social media; it’s not about self-promotion, it’s about everyone in America having an opportunity to connect to the project and shape its direction.

You can help by following along on the website starting August 1st and helping me spread the word! Simply clicking the Facebook “like” button is a great contribution. Tell your friends, neighbors, and folks walking down the street about the project too!

You can help by donating to the project. The scope of the project is immense, but the reward will be beautiful! The next year of my life will be dedicated to this project. Living simple is my mantra. Camping out, cooking basic meals, and connecting to folks in a honest way.

Has not connected their Facebook account.

Born and raised in the South, I grew up in a family rich with oral history. While studying in the Appalachian mountains I fell in love with photography. In 2007 I earned my MFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

For the past 2 years I was working in a commercial photography studio in the beautiful panhandle of Idaho. One morning I woke up, and decided I needed use photography to connect with folks, and tell their story.
