The Rocketboys is an independent, label-free indie rock music project in Austin, TX. Our independence has been both rewarding and challenging, giving us creative freedom while stretching us financially. Each member has endured less-than-desirable, part-time jobs in order to keep up with the band’s extensive touring schedule.
This imminent creative endeavor includes a five-song EP, to be released in November, and our second full-length album, to be released in summer 2011. We want to create and market each release within our proposed timeline, as well as tour extensively, playing the songs off the albums for people across the country.
The EP is unlike any project we've ever done. In late July, we recorded the drums at a studio in Austin. The next step for many bands would be to go on to record bass, guitars, keyboards, and vocals in the studio.
But not for us.
We have taken our finished drum tracks on the road with us to record the rest of the EP while on a three-week national tour. We have found a mix of random spots--magazine newsrooms, living rooms, abandoned buildings, etc.—as well as studios across the country to record the fabric of the album, all while playing shows every night. The endeavor--which, while I write, is still in progress--is both challenging and creatively rewarding. We are taking our surroundings, friends, a smorgasbord of instruments, and determination and weaving together a seldom-seen musical project of sorts.
Our full-length album will expand on the EP. While we plan to record in an actual studio, we still want to carry with us the creative mindset developed while recording the EP. We want to incorporate a concentrated diversity and give our listeners a timeless and accessible music project.
We believe in the power of collaboration and the importance of fostering a diverse community through music. Therefore, we have decided to seek the involvement of our fans, friends, and not-yet-reached fans across the world in a relevant, participatory, and creative role. The possibility of such collaboration inspires us and pushes us to new levels of creativity.
