"The Red Robin" was conceived 6 years ago when I was about to max out my credit cards to make my second feature bare-bones, guerilla-style, as in no big names, no trailers, no flashy premiere party at the Ziegfield, just enough to feed the crew so they wouldn't revolt. Previously, I completed a small feature film called "Slaves of Hollywood" with most of the above attributes and was invited to 35 festivals worldwide (winning 3), secured distribution and received rave reviews in Los Angeles, so I was no stranger to the idea of making movies on a shoestring nor how much effort would be required not only to write/shoot/edit the movie but to get out and sell, sell, sell!
What started out as a micro-budget movie with unknown actors has evolved into a film that now has Academy Award stars and producers attached. We have 6 incredible luminaries of the silver screen:
Executive Producing the movie is Academy Award winner, Jonathan Sanger(Vanilla Sky,The Elephant Man, The Producers) as well as Rick Porras(Co-producer of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy).
Once the project was fully-packaged, I teamed up with some strong business partners who have helped us raise most of the ridiculously low budget. The remaining balance is being filled by a combination of tax-credits, soft government money(depending on where we shoot), and 1 or 2 pre-sales. At this point, we are set to shoot in October 2011. Why I'm here and what I'm asking for is support to help me cover the balance of our POST PRODUCTION COSTS. The budget we currently have is enough to get the film "in the can" and ready for a 3 month edit schedule. At this point, as an editor myself, I am tapping into all the wonderful relationships I have with major post houses to get us great discounts without compromising quality. I've already cut deals that have reduced my budget from over $100k to $25,000. Now, with this pedigree of this cast, I know I can get a post-house to barter in-kind services if they have the available edit space and personnel, but I thought how cool it would be to say that this film's post-production was made possible by the Kickstarter community. If I make my fundraising goal, I will have a special credit in the movie that will say just that.

Michael Z. Wechsler, Writer/Director/Producer
SLAVES OF HOLLYWOOD, Michael Wechsler’s first independent feature film, is a dramedy that was made in 1999. Even without major stars or publicity, the film garnered many accolades including winning 2 international festivals for Best Film. A celebrated hit at more than 35 film festivals worldwide, it was picked up for theatrical distribution in Los Angeles and New York and now available on DVD in video stores and on the Web.
The film received a glowing review from the head critic of The Los Angeles Times. The film had over 80 speaking roles, was very character-driven, and came in on a $600,000 budget.
Following the release of Slaves of Hollywood, Michael was hired by Village Roadshow Pictures to write the feature screenplay "Hangmen," as well as by Miragequest Studios to write the science fiction feature, "Sky Bar." In 2000, he was commissioned to create, write and direct 2 new series for Always Independent Films, entitled "Celebrity Home Videos" and "The Last Date". Thereafter, Michael created and sold a pilot entitled "Meet the Family" to Spike TV. Since re-launching both web series 4 months ago, 2 of the shorts-"Brace Yourself" and "Young Seinfeld" have become instant web hits with over 12 million hits collectively on YOUTUBE, and over 20,000 hits a day. Mr. Wechsler is now in preproduction to expand both series and capitalize on the burgeoning fan base that has responded to the shorts.
For the last 8 years, Michael has been involved with many projects produced by the British Broadcasting Corporation. At the BBC, he has directed more than thirteen episodes of The Learning Channel's top rated show, "What Not To Wear" as well as their new series, "One Week to Save Your Marriage". In addition, Michael has directed episodes of "Honey, We’re Killing the Kids". May 2006, he was hired by Los Angeles based Stone and Company to direct the pilot episode of the new Bravo series, "Tim Gunn's Guide To Style" (with a 500k budget) hosted by the eponymous star of the hit series "Project Runway." Michael Series Produced a pilot for The Learning Channel called “UGLY,” an observational documentary series which follows the reputable London based character agency opening doors in NYC. He also spent 2 years producing and directing “Passport To,” a Travel Channel show featuring Samantha Brown. Currently, Michael is a predator--directing/producing/editing for various production companies.
Michael has been featured in articles for Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, E! Entertainment Online, The Los Angeles Business Journal, Venice Magazine, Film Threat, Indiewire.com, and Max Magazine.
Wechsler is a graduate of the Tisch School of Arts, Film Program at New York University. He currently resides in Hoboken, New Jersey with his wife and 2 sons.
