About this project

Hey Folks,

We're the Pop Ups, a Brooklyn based family music band, whose work blends music, puppetry and video. 

The Project

To make our new puppet rock opera, based on our new record, Radio Jungle! 

We’ve just finished recording our new record, RADIO JUNGLE, and gotten some of the best musicians and engineers IN THE WORLD to work on it including: Shine (of the Moonbeams), Oran Etkin, and Peter Stampfel (The Holy Modal Rounders and the Fugs), Ben Holmes, Kenneth Salters, and Colette Alexander (Josh Grobin).  We think it’s the best work we’ve ever done and now it’s time to bring it to the stage.

The History

Our first show, PASTA! debuted in Los Angeles in 2010.  It went on to be seen by audiences all over the country - from the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, to New York's Beacon Theatre with  Yo Gabba Gabba Live.

The music from PASTA has won both a NAPPA award and a Parent’s Choice award, and was picked as one of the top ten childrens records of 2010 by the Washington Post, Time Out New York Kids, Zooglobble, and many others.

The Pieces

At The Pop Ups Puppet Shack we maintain, costume, design and create new puppet characters.   The puppet makers on our team have credits including the Muppet workshop, NYC Puppet Kitchen, numerous TV and film credits, as well as theater..  They are some of the best in the business!

We have to design and fabricate a lightweight set, so that the show can travel and COME TO YOUR TOWN!

A lot of our songs highlight visual concepts.  We design and prepare video projections as visual teaching tools to enhance the lessons in the songs. 

We have to create both lighting and sound design.

We have to design and fabricate costumes.

We do everything that we can possibly do ourselves to eliminate unnecessary expenses.  That said, we still need your help to make this show a reality.  We believe that with very little budget you can truly make something magical.  There are many ways that you can have a special role in making this show come to life.

As people who have seen any of our shows can attest to, we put our all into our work.  Even though we operate on a shoestring we try and make our shows as enchanting and entertaining as possible..  we pride ourselves on having performances that are enjoyable for all ages.  (and we really mean that.)
