Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The good news is that we already have a new cut of this film. We have our post house, we have our sound designer, and we have already mastered this movie once before. If we are funded, we can promise to deliver a beautiful and professional finished product that you can watch and enjoy. In a worst-case scenario, the postproduction could end up costing more than we anticipate; however, as we are already working with the post house and musicians with a set budget, we do not foresee this as a problem. But our work won’t stop there; our greatest challenge will be bringing The Phoenix Project to the rest of the world.
Attaining distribution for an independently funded film is a long and difficult road. Even when we finish the final film, we cannot guarantee that it will be available in theaters or stores. We hope to reach a distribution deal through film festival exposure, but that will only work if it is accepted to the festivals we enter. As this is the Ironwood Gang’s first feature-length film, we will be submitting to festivals we’ve never before entered, and cannot guarantee our acceptance. We believe in our film and its quality, but that is not a guarantee that other’s will, which is a risk we, and you as a donor, are making.
Additionally, this is our first Kickstarter endeavor, and the logistics of delivering the Kickstarter rewards will be challenging. Although we will work to avoid it, we may face challenges in staying true to our distribution deadlines. Keeping track of our wonderful donors and staying organized will be paramount.
The greatest risk we’ve taken is embarking on a project of this magnitude, and the challenge of raising the $30,000 we need is daunting. If we cannot raise the money, we will not be able to properly finish the film, and the cut we have will be destined for the shelf. We are young filmmakers, and lack the experience of the industry veterans we are competing with; however, we see that as a virtue, not a vice. We are fresh out of school, we’re dedicated, and we’re all crazy enough to believe that, with your help and support, we can turn The Phoenix Project into a reality.
