Update #16: Yes, I am Precious Book - Test Print
Looking good - well, apart from the fact that I forgot to include captions under the photos and a color is off on the cover. Fixy fixy then printy printy!
Update #15: Across the USA day-by-day
Thought I'd post this here as well. This video is compiled from background photos I took for the site http://yesiamprecious.com while riding across the USA. Enjoy! That site helped me raise over $7,500 for LIVESTRONG, which was pretty cool. And my bike (Precious) now has more Twitter followers than me. :)
Update #14: The Khaki Pants Bugler TOOT!
Update #13: TransAmerica or Bust: The Plan Edition
Greetings,
Just a quick update here. The arm is healing (slowly), the scars settling in (Hi! I'm here!), the ego coming back (I'm awesome!), and the restart date almost nailed down. I made a video update outlining the possible plans, but it's too large to post here. So you can go view it at my site, and also check out a link to the Plan A route draft itinerary.

Wherever you are, ride on. Because I bloody-well intend to!

Update #12: Small setback...
Hello everyone!
As some of you know, on Day 4 of my epic adventure, I had a little, tiny, minuscule setback. Yeah, I crashed my arse off and Precious is still sore about it!
You can read about that here. http://nodirectionknown.com/blog/...
Anyway, the plan is to get back on the road as soon as humanly possible, which at this point is at least 4 weeks away. This is of course dependent on my broken wrist being awesome and healing like a mofo.
I can't wait to be back out there and am incredibly disappointed that this happened. Should the whole thing ends up trashed, all monies will of course be refunded. But just know that the plan is to continue on, albeit a month behind schedule. All those who picked specific dates for their rewards will have an opportunity to change them based on the restart date, once I've worked that out.
Thanks for your support and I will continue to keep you all in the loop. Best start to a book ever!
Ride on!
Janeen
PS: it really takes a long time to type stuff with one hand.

Can you see that I am using this thing for the first time? (look at me signing my comment. Duh.)

I followed your tweets and blog during the whole thing. Concentrate on healing up! Then get back to it! If it doesn't work out, I really don't want my contribution back. None of the KickStarter projects are guaranteed of success, and you will have done your best. Plus there is always next year if worst comes to worst! All my best!

Ouch! I broke my wrist a few years back, and it really sucks. On the bright side, adversity makes for great storytelling.
I agree with Bill; if it doesn't work out, I don't want my contribution back either. Use it for this, or another bike project, or use it to cover your medical bills, or whatever you want -- it's your money now.
Best of luck whatever happens.

Update #11: Quick Update & thanks
Update #10: VIDEO UPDATE #7 - Redux
Update #9: VIDEO UPDATE #7 - TOO MANY COOKS
Update #8: Goal = met. People = awesome
After work a week ago today, I was sitting in Spitzer's Corner and sipping on a Sword Swallower*. That sounds way dirtier than it is. Anyway, I was sitting there when I got a notification that I had another backer. Mike had thrown in $27 to push me over the line. Thanks, Mike!
What made it kind of funny was I was actually one penny short.
Yes, the project home page said $2,000, but the backer report showed it as $1,999.99
"Do I still celebrate?" I wondered, gazing into the amber depths of the Sword Swallower's soul.
"What if people come to the page and see I've made the goal and don't back me? Will I always be one penny short?"
I took another sip of beer. And then another. And, oh, ok, just one more.
All these deep thoughts at the internal Ponderation Ranch of my brain came to nowt but a hangover the next day. For Kit arrived! Yes, Kit came to the rescue (although knew nothing of the 1 cent shortfall) and threw in another tenner. Success, hazzah!
So, thanks everyone! Seriously. Hearty digital hugs and www-wet kisses on cheekbone area. Thank you so much for being so generous and getting this project funded WELL BEFORE the deadline. Still 40 days to go and I'm a fully funded, khaki pants wearing adventurer.
I ask you - I ASK YOU! - can awesomeness be far behind? :)
Peas out

PS: Video update coming soon. I'm waiting for something in the mail.

Update #7: VIDEO UPDATE #6 - SLEEPY TIME
Update #6: UPDATE #5 - FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Update #5: UPDATE #4 - GUNS AND BLAMMO
Update #4: Video update for everyone
I know. Two updates in one day! But a new team member arrived via FedEx last week and I finally got a chance to put it together today. Thought it might make a nice update video for all.
Ladies and gents, I'd like for you to meet my new BOB trailer, aka Zimmerman. The panniers vs. trailer debate is the Mac vs. PC of the touring cyclist's world. I have no opinion either way. I went with the trailer to put less stress on Precious' frame.
Ride on,
J
Update #3: Q&A Update
Greetings,
By now, those who've pledged know that I'm doing little Q&A videos to share information about this trip. I'm not sure how interesting they are (hopefully they are useful), but I thought it would be nice to give those little glimpses into the process. They're actually helping me get my head around a lot of the stuff that I have to do!
Here's a little list of questions I've received, which have either been already answered in the last two backer updates, or will be answered in future videos.
- How far will you ride each day? - ANSWERED IN "Maps" update
- How long will it take? - ANSWERED IN "Maps" update
- Why are you doing this?
- Where will you sleep?
- Who are you going with?
- What do you plan to carry with you? (RE: Spares)
- How much of it will you be riding with traffic...?
- Do you know where your stops will be? What if its 60 miles your hungry and exhausted and there is no where to sleep?
- What's your fueling strategy - are you going to eat at fast food places along the way, are you taking snacks with you, are you going to live off GU for a month?
- Have a lot of people done this?
- Won't your butt get sore?
- Are you taking a gun?
- Are you taking mace?
Add more!
Ride on. J
